The West Country region

Devon is the only county of England to have two separate coastlines (north and south), both of which are peppered by lofty cliffs and sandy shores. This coastline gives rise to some of the best fresh produce in the country and Devon boasts wonderful tea rooms, great foodie pubs and one of the top rated fine dining restaurants in the UK ( MIchael Caines' Gidleigh Park) to sample its delights.

Inland Devon is broadly rural and hilly with Dartmoor National Park being the largest open space in Southern England and famous for spectacular scenery and walks.

The coastline can be accessed via the South West Coastal Path that takes in stretches of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Devon really is a great location and has something for all.

Exeter

Topsham is nestled on the East side of the River Exe and is the former port of Exeter. The town has a long and ancient history dating back to the Roman period.

Formerly a major seaport trading in cotton, the town is now of interest for its architecture with many of the houses being built using Dutch bricks which were brought over in exchange for wool and cotton.

Topsham has great proximity to nature reserves for wading and migrating birds with RSPB Bowling Green Marsh located on the Exe estuary, the whole of which is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

It also boasts its own museum which is located in a 17th century building overlooking the Exe Estuary and displays the local history of the town and memorabilia of Vivien Leigh, the film star.

Topsham has unique character supported by many local independent shops and restaurants as well as some great sporting facilities with the heated outdoor swimming pool and local tennis courts nearby.

"churchview great, topsham great"

Spent w/e at Topsham, no car, buses and train service very good. Lovely shops and Darts farm few mins away by bus. Lots of places to eat out. Met Jo bringing new toaster. Left lovely basket with eggs, fruit and biscuits. Tea, coffee and sugar in kitchen. Comfy beds, apartment quiet. Did have trouble with key opening and closing outside door from inside at first but found the 'knack' in the end.Lovely break, friendly people.

"Great accomodation"

I think this is a great apartment to rent, good quality and all done in a very professional and informative manner. This is a great location for Topsham and the apartment has everything you will need to enjoy your visit,it was great having a welcome basket with goodies to eat,and especially milk, tea and coffee when you arrive. Before I moved to Turkey I lived in Topsham for ten years and it is still a magic place to visit and good base for Exeter and Exmouth to explore.
Will definitely use again

"Lovely apartment - well worth a visit - its like a home from home"

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend, 4 adults. Apartment very clean, lots of information about the area and the facilities in the apartment. It was a home from home, with a very well equipped kitchen, fast broadband, good TV etc etc. The welcome pack was a lovely nice unexpected touch - eggs, milk, biscuits, fruit etc. and it was nice of the owner to pop by on Friday evening to make sure all was okay. The stairs up to the apartment are a bit uneven and and steep, not a problem for us but for older folk it would be a challenge. Parking is a bit difficult and if you have to go in a car park it cost over £10 a day - more than the £1.80 we were told, but it looks like this has only gone up in price recently.
The sofas in the lounge were not very comfortable, especially the wicker one, but chuck a duvet and pillows on it and its okay.
Very efficient with sending information and we asked a few questions about parking, restaurants and pubs and Jo came back very quickly with lots of info. Overall an excellent experience and we would go back.

"very enjoyable break away, beautiful & stylish apartment, would love to return"

We travelled to Devon with my two grown up children for a break away together to catch up & enjoy the seaside. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in Topsham. The apartment was beautifully decorated, and it seemed everything had been thought of.
There was an extensive library of the latest DVD's, board games, and books supplied. The welcome pack was also a nice surprise.
Despite the loss of power on our last afternoon/evening in the apartment we would definately highly recomend this apartment to our friends and would ourselves enjoy a return visit in the fututre.
Thank you Jo and Andrew

"Tasteful Apartment"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this extremely comfortable, well appointed and perfectly situated apartment. Topsham is a charming little town with several excellent restaurants, and lots of independent shops to browse in (the cheese shop opposite the apartment is a must). This first floor apartment afforded beautiful views over the church yard, and was a stone's throw from the banks of stunning Exe estuary. Highly recommended!

"Beautiful appartment, fantastic location."

We had such a lovely time here and would definitely recommend it. Topsham has so much to offer from amazing bookshops to crafts and antiques and the setting is idyllic. The ever changing tide is beautiful. Would recommend a trip to branscombe and fingle bridge.
