Home description

This was the lock keepers cottage beside the Exe estuary and on the canal bank and now available as accommodation for field study groups,outdoor enthusiasts and perfect for bird watchers.
Exminster Marshes and Bowling Green Marsh within easy reach. The canal has a purpose built traffic free cycle/walk way that goes all the way to Exeter, so the cottage can be reached by walkers, cyclist and canoeist . The closest point by car is appox 500 meters from the cottage.
Although remotely located it is only a short ferry ride across the river to the Historic town of Topsham with all the shops and amenities. It is not suitable for young children.

Within easy reach along the traffic free cycle/walk way is the Cathederal city of Exeter

How to get there

Exeter, the closest main City is easily reached by motorway, train or plane.
To reach the cottage you can either use the rail link from Exeter to Topsham, or travel down the canal using the local ferries, your own canoes or kayaks or by foot or bicycle along the canal walk way.
By Car, from the A379 Exminster turn into the country lane by the Swans Nest Pub, follow road down to the Canal where there is a car park which is appox 500 meters from Cottage.This is the closest that a car can be to the cottage.

Self contained accommodation of upto 6 people, with a main room for living and dining, separate kitchen and bathroom with toilet, a twin room upstairs and a 4 bed bunkroom downstairs.
Very suitable for use as a base for field studies as this is situated in an important wildlife area idealy located for exploring the surrounding waterways by canoes and kayaks.

Outside is an open area with scenic views of the river and canal.
Outside table and chairs provided.

Conditions

Bookings will be considered firm upon receipt of a non refundable deposit of 20% of total cost.
Balance due 4 weeks prior to stay.
A Damage deposit may be requested.
All breakages must be paid for.
