Exeter is an ancient roman town, much of the old roman walls are still intact & also form part of the excellent & free Royal Albert Museum. The town owes it's position & name as being the first place you could ford the river Exe. Under Exeter there are is a wonderful labyrinth of underground passages, many open to the public, but not the ones which go under the city banks! Exeter City council offer free 'Red Coat' tours of the city, which start in the magnificent Exeter Cathedral. You know the old nursery rhyme "Hickory Dickory Dock" this is supposed to be based on the old clock in the cathedral, which has a special hole in it to allow the cathedral cat in to keep the rats at bay. Not that you will find any rats there now!
Exeter ancient docks are a must see; used for the BBC Onedin line series, visit the dock museum & customs house.
Feeling active, the quay has a wonderful climbing centre in the cities old power station, even if you don't want to climb the coffee shop looking over the old generating room is magnificent, or hire a canoe & paddle along the first canal in England.
The Exe estuary I beleive has the best off-road cycle route in the country, hire a bike on the quay & cycle to the ancient towns of Topsham (once the largest ship building yard in England) Lympstone (see the fishermen's cottages & washing lines on the beach) & then on to the seaside town of Exmouth, catch the ferry to Starcross & then stop at Turf Inn hotel, (you can only get to it by boat, foot or bike) & then the Double Locks pub, before finding yourself back in Exeter. 21 miles all flat & all off road.

"Staycation in Exeter"
A light, airy, comfortable well equipped apartment requiring some TLC. Note left to say there had been late changeover. The towels were in machine. No cleaning appeared to have been done as we had to … More

"Fine for us"
This apartment has worked for us, it is very compact but really quiet, off the main road and there's a car park. Bringing our dog, we were glad that it wasn't 'bijou' although it … More
We`re glad you had a great stay.
We'll improve the provisions for cooking.
At present the apartment has: oven/grill, ceramic 4 place hob, roasting pan, cake pan, 2 non-stick saucepans & lids, Teffle non-stick frying pan, microwave, various chopping boards & knives, various cooking spatulas, coffee bean grinder & percolater.
But well improve on that immediately.

You've got us mixed up with somewhere else.
The apartment is immaculate. We always make a point of ensuring it's cleaned to a high standard, just as it looks in the photos of the apartment.
It's so hidden away the only interruptions you will get are from the squirrels & birds.
It's up a 300m private road, which ends at our house. Through a large private garden at the rear of the house.
The garden is the old kitchen garden which is surrounded by old victorian 12' brick walls. Your not going to see a soul there.
There are a few comings & goings, but are neighbours are all retired folk. after about 6pm your unlikely to see anyone in the carpark & the days of people shouting & screaming if they ever did that, it would have been 20+ years ago for them.
