The Dordogne region
Aquitaine in southern France! - Sunshine is the norm here, it's a gardener's and tourist's paradise in the prettiest countryside in France! Dordogne lies between the mostly flat coastal regions and the mountainous empty Massif Central. In Dordogne you find hills and valleys, forests with wild boar and deer in an unspoilt countryside dotted with villages and farms. Experience the local weekly market - try the famous Perigord food including duck, foie gras, confit de canard, truffles, cepe mushrooms, walnuts and even caviar from the Dordogne river, not to mention the baguettes, wine and cheese!
Châteaux with war machines, Museums, Roman remains, horse riding, canoeing and fishing rivers, Water sports lake with wake boarding, - all on our doorstep. It is a region bursting with places to see and things to do, indoors and out. The scenery is simply beautiful - many say like the prettiest parts of England before industrialisation and tarmac. Dordogne is only one day's drive from the Channel ports, and the climate is just so much sunnier and warmer! Famous places like Brantome, Sarlat, Domme, Bergerac, Pompadour and Jumilhac-le-Grand are all within easy reach.
The Farmhouse and Cottage at Tabary are ideally placed for exploring the Perigord region. Nearby Excideuil is a market town with a host of 17th century buildings and X1th century fortress Château . Romanesque churches to see, Lake with beach, boats and wake-boarding 15 minutes, Newly discovered caves with fantastic stalactites just over the hill! NEW 9 hole Golf course just 4km.
Perigueux hosts summer music evenings and festival of mime. The huge Cathedral dominates the skyline with its towers and domes. Outstanding network of cross-country tracks offering wonderful walking, riding and cycling in unspoilt countryside, and you can walk or ride along the ancient pilgrim paths to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

"Ticks all the boxes!"
What a beautiful place to stay! La Ferme is fantastically spacious and cool in the hot weather; the outdoor space is tremendous (and inclusive of a badminton net and racquets); and the diving board, of course, is a total hit with young children - though the shallow end is still quite deep so it helps if they're confident in the water. The area couldn't be better with a supermarket at the end of the road and a beautiful market town with a choice of bakeries a few metres further on, and we easily filled a fortnight with things to do: canoeing (Dordogne river is particularly good - 40 miles away but a fab day out); walking; sandy beach at Ruffiac lake (20 mins); Quercyland water park (again 40 miles but worth it); scrambly walks along the Auvezere River (15 mins - a particular favourite); Hautefort Chateau, caves, markets... I totally recommend this as a beautiful and relaxing place to stay that's off the tourist-track and yet within easy reach of so many wonderful things to do.
