Home description
Passareiro is a charming and traditional working estate located in the heart of Portugal’s unique Alentejo region. The house itself dates from the 18th Century and is elegant but informal, with long vine-shaded pergolas running along the length of the bedrooms and spacious living areas. Antiques and rustic pieces are scattered throughout, adding to the rich sense of character and history of the house and its surroundings.
Perfectly located to explore all the area has to offer, Passareiro is within easy reach of Lisbon airport (1hr15mins). The UNESCO World Heritage town of Evora is 25mins away and guests are welcome to walk on the estate, exploring the vineyards and cork forests or to just relax by the pool and take in the atmosphere.
Passareiro sleeps 10 in six bedrooms and is available for private stays year-round on an exclusive basis only. Accommodation is offered on a self catering basis, but chefs and childcare can be arranged in advance. Smaller groups welcome.

The Southern Plains/Alentejo region
The Alentejo is a beautiful and diverse area, offering visitors a glimpse of rural life in one of Europe’s most undiscovered regions. From cork forests to fortified medieval towns, vineyards and great cuisine, there is lots to keep visitors busy.
The Alentejo is an excellent year-round destination and the landscape changes dramatically throughout the year. In spring, the fields come alive with wildflowers, summer days are long and hot with the landscape taking on golden tones until late autumn, when it is wine harvesting time. Winters days can be very sunny and warm, although the nights can be chilly, but cosy if spent by a roaring fireplace!
Evora area
As a working farm, Passareiro also offers a chance to see traditional farm activities. In late May you can see the unique process of cork stripping and September is time for grape harvesting. Early spring is lambing season and the fields come alive with wildflowers. Guests are welcome to walk on the estate, exploring our vineyards and cork forests.
Nearby is the World Heritage town of Evora, with its white-washed houses and Roman ruins, including the famous Temple of Diana. Evora is a charming university town with plenty of shops and restaurants. Other historic towns such as Estremoz and Reguengos are nearby and there are several prehistoric sites to be explored. The area also offers horse-riding, biking, nature walks and Go-Karting. Wine tastings can be arranged.
