The Alentejo region
The Alentejo is a beautiful and diverse area, offering visitors a glimpse of rural life in one of Europe’s most undiscovered regions. From cork forests to fortified medieval towns, vineyards and great cuisine, there is lots to keep visitors busy.
The Alentejo is an excellent year-round destination and the landscape changes dramatically throughout the year. In spring, the fields come alive with wildflowers, summer days are long and hot with the landscape taking on golden tones until late autumn, when it is wine harvesting time. Winters days can be very sunny and warm, although the nights can be chilly, but cosy if spent by a roaring fireplace!
As a working farm, Passareiro also offers a chance to see traditional farm activities. In late May you can see the unique process of cork stripping and September is time for grape harvesting. Early spring is lambing season and the fields come alive with wildflowers. Guests are welcome to walk on the estate, exploring our vineyards and cork forests.
Nearby is the World Heritage town of Evora, with its white-washed houses and Roman ruins, including the famous Temple of Diana. Evora is a charming university town with plenty of shops and restaurants. Other historic towns such as Estremoz and Reguengos are nearby and there are several prehistoric sites to be explored. The area also offers horse-riding, biking, nature walks and Go-Karting. Wine tastings can be arranged.

"Beautiful house, ideal for large groups, everything thought of!"
A beautiful large house perfect for young children to play, run and hide. Wonderfully sociable pool area far enough away from the house so as not to be worrying if you have young kids. The option of a chef is fantastic, it was a treat to have a meal on the table after a long journey and it was utterly delicious! Each master has a en-suite which is great for large groups and there are bottles of delicous local wines available which you can pay for at the end. The owners are on hand if you need anything but it is very unlikely you will as everything has been thought of! Perfect!

"A chance to recharge your batteries"
I have stayed at Passareiro on several occasions over the years and I return over a over again. At a reasonable driving distance from Lisbon is this peaceful space where you can get away to recharge your batteries from one's day to day life.
The property has great grounds to enjoy long walks, siestas by the pool are a must, as are long lazy lunches and glasses of wine under the stars.
The perfect get away with friends and family.

There is no point in going on holiday if you are less comfortable than at home. Wonderfully, a stay at Passareiro feels like being at home... but better. There is space for everything inside and out - the lovely eating area looking out over the vines; the glorious swimming pool with shade for the babies and plenty of loungers for the sun-worshippers; the enormous dining table, if you can bear to eat inside; the cosy sitting room for relaxing with a book (or an ipad!); gorgeous bedrooms with plenty of storage to unpack ; enough bathrooms for everyone to wallow. Then there are the large, comfortable beds, that get made for you each morning; the fabulous produce available to make wonderful meals; stunning countryside that you can explore on foot within the estate...
The experience at Passareiro is a rare and joyous thing. A beautiful house and farm in which to relax and soak up the good things in life - family, friends, food, drink, sun. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

"Ideal place for a group of friends with children"
This is my 4th time back to Passareiro and I love this place! This time we were with 4 couple friends who also have young children. All the children in the group were between the ages of 1 and 4 yrs, and they adored the place. It is very easy to get to from Lisbon (only about a 1 and a quarter hour drive from the airport - all motorway) which was perfect - any longer the kids would start to moan! The farmhouse has all the modern comforts you want, but maintains the appeal and beauty of a countryside retreat. The kids loved running around outside and swimming in the swimming pool. We went on several walks in the farm which were great fun! It is also a fully operational farm and we walked around to see the vineyards, cork trees and sheep - which the kids loved! I think we were all happy that our kids managed to spend some time in a fresh-air countryside environment, as we all live in central London. When the kids would have their afternoon "siesta" we (the adults, of course!) took the opportunity to relax in the swimming pool area. In the evening, when the kids were asleep we had fabulous dinners accompanied by delicious Alentejo red wine. For most of the time we simply enjoyed relaxing and taking advantage of the wonderful house. We also managed to go one day to the spectacular UNESCO town of Evora which is a 15 minute drive away. I cannot think of a more ideal place to spend a week with friends if you all have young children. I already miss it and will be booking again for 2013!
