About this location
The Somerset region
Stoney Stratton is in the middle of a fertile farming area, near the foot of the Mendip Hills. There are many lovely walks to tackle and hills to climb.
The Celts and Romans knew the value of the local area and wool wealth followed in the middle ages. Scattered hill forts, Roman remains and lovely mediaeval churches with famous Somerset towers all speak of the rich history.
Red Tiles is within easy reach of many good attractions. The Royal Bath and West Showground, home to one of the largest agricultural shows in the country as well as numerous other events is less than two miles away.
Longleat Safari Park and Attractions are less than half and hour away, as are Stourhead House and Gardens. Other National Trust properties close by are Montacute and Lytes Cary.
The coast may seem like a long way but is in easy reach via direct trains between Castle Cary and Weymouth with its wonderful sandy beach.
There are good local pubs and restaurants in local villages, some of which are listed in a booklet at the property and a Spa Hotel, Bannatyne's Charlton House is only a couple of miles away.
Bath and Bristol with all their attractions are only a forty five minute drive. Wells with its world famous cathedral is only fifteen minutes away and Glastonbury Tor and Abbey not much further.
November sees the annual carnival parades in many local towns with huge and imaginative carnival floats.

Red Tiles is a very pretty cottage with splendid views of the rolling green countryside of Somerset. The cottage was beautifully kept, with farm house furnishings that enhanced the feeling of a cosy country hideaway. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful - they even baked a cake to welcome us.
I would heartily recommend this picturesque cottage as ideal for a country gettaway.
