The Highlands region

The Highlands of Scotland is famous for its stunning scenery and landscapes and offers the visitor a great variety of activities and days out. Historic castles and gardens, boat trips, a visit to Loch Ness or Culloden Battlefield, a day trip to the West Coast or north to the stunning scenery of Caithness, you will find Assynt House is the perfect base to enjoy what the Highlands has to offer.

Evanton area

Enjoy guided excursions to fish for salmon on the River Alness or brown trout on one of the many beautiful lochs in the area. We can also arrange for private beats on the River Alness where TroutQuest will be delighted to teach any of your group.

Ross-shire and the surrounding area offer a great range of golf courses to suit all abilities including champion courses such as Nairn and Royal Dornoch. Whether it's a days grouse, pheasant or clay-pigeon shoot or a full week of stalking on some of the Highlands best estates, we can arrange hunting trips for your party with qualified professionals.

Explore the local area to its full and enjoy the great outdoors by taking either a short local walk or take a guided walk where you will be joined by a professional who can show you some hidden treasures and tell you more about the area which surrounds you, we can also meet you with a picnic lunch half-way to give you a chance to re-charge!

Take a boat trip in the Moray Firth to look for Red Kites, Seals, Dolphins or even Whales, the perfect way to see our wildlife up close. Take a relaxing, serene canoe trip which can be tailored for the whole family or an adrenaline filled afternoon in more challenging waters. If you really want to get wet try gorge walking, it's not as scary as it sounds! We recommend local company Boots 'n' Paddles for canoeing, gorge walking and many of the outdoor sports available.

The Highland destination for Skiing is Aviemore, which is just 30 miles south of Inverness, a perfectly manageable day-out from Assynt House. You don't need to have any of our own equipment or clothing and the slopes cater for beginners and experienced skiers alike. There is also ski instruction available.

During your time here in the Highlands a visit to a Whisky Distillery is a must. Only 10 minutes drive from the house is Dalmore Distillery, home to their award-winning malts. Tain's Glenmorangie Whisky is still made by the Sixteen Men of Tain on the picturesque shores of the Dornoch Firth, again open for tours and tastings.
