Estrella de Mar is a quiet complex on the Mar Menor (‘Little Sea’). Mar Menor is an immense lagoon of warm, shallow water separated from the Mediterranean by the La Manga Strip in South East Spain. It is an area of low rainfall and prolonged sunshine (300+ days per year).Local beaches walking distance on the Mar Menor.
Sea beaches on the Med a few miles distant.

The Costa Calida region
Estrella de Mar is a quiet complex on the Mar Menor (‘Little Sea’).
Mar Menor is an immense lagoon of warm, shallow water separated from the Mediterranean by the La Manga Strip in South East Spain.
The water temperature is usually 4-5 degrees warmer than the Mediterranean sea proper.
It is an area of low rainfall and prolonged sunshine (300+ days per year).
Cartagena is an old roman (and pre-roman) city and the administrative capital for the area. Murcia city is the regional capital. Both are well worth a visit.
La Manga strip which separates the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean sea is a site to behold with sky rise hotels stretching almost its 26km length, until reverting to its original marsh and salt flats to the north.
The strip looks different every day, sometimes seeming to loom out of the sea, sometimes looking very distant
and fairytale like.
North of Murcia Airport there are salt pans and a protected bird sanctuary.

Walking : Easy reach of the Calblanque Parque Nacional. Stunning views down to the Med, or back over to the Mar Menor.

A beatiful 4km beach close by at Los Alcazares with food (and drink) which has to be sampled at the Chiringuito (Beach bars) ....... or for that special treat perhaps eat at Restaurante La Encarnacion .... a stunning period hotel / restaurant.
Sea beaches on the Med a few miles distant.
The Sunday market at Cabo de Palos is a must for many..... perhaps followed by a meal at one of the many restaurants in the very attractive fishing port. Followed up with a stroll along the cliffs to El Faro (The Lighthouse)
Local bars and restaurants available if you don't want to travel so far.
A visit to the local Bodega (off license with a difference) is a must for food and drink. (Our favourite is in El Algar)

Estrella de Mar is a mere 20 minutes away by car from San Xavier (Murcia) airport. A small airport that is none the less serviced by an increasing number of budget airlines.
Ryanair fly from Birmingham, Bournemouth, Dublin, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford,Liverpool,Luton and Stansted.
Jet2 fly from Belfast, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Leeds/Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle.

The apartment is well furnished and has all you may need for a quiet break. The apartment does not overlook the pool, or the bar. This is a blessing as the noise on certain nights from the bar is also negligible. There is not much to do in the resort, but is great base to relax in and go out to various locations. The beaches around here are fabulous. A must trip is the Calblanque and the La Manga strip. Cartegena is great for a bit of history, but don't go during the siesta, too hot and the museum and other POI are closed. |
