About the home

Chez Dar Ma is a newly renovated traditional riad on three levels with 5 en-suite bedrooms (3 double, 2 twin) that can sleep 12 ( with 2 on sofa-beds). All rooms face onto a sunny central courtyard. The riad is beautifully decorated and has a relaxed, cosy inviting feel.
The riad is fully-equipped with everything you need as well as a daily maid for a perfect, relaxing holiday.
Ideal for families and groups

On the edge of the medina, Chez DarMa is walking distance of many restaurants, galleries, the souk, harbour, ramparts, cafes and the beach. It is also 2 minutes from parking facilities and taxis.

We also offer 'Bed and Breakfast' - great for couples looking for the riad experience in a friendly, relaxed homely environment.

On the ground floor there is a large kitchen/breakfast room, TV/DVD/computer room with fireplace (idea for children), dining /living room with big fireplace and a spacious patio area with ample seating.

The bedrooms are situated on the 1st and 2nd floors, each with its own bathroom. Two rooms have an extra sofa-bed allowing for a total of 12.
The terrace has a very comfortable wind protected shaded seating area fantastic for having breakfast, lunch and even dinner. There is also a small kitchen and a separate sunny room which can be used for painting, yoga or just relaxing - good for windy days! There is a second terrace for sunbathing with wonderful views over the medina.

Smoking is fine as long it is not in any of the rooms (i.e. on the terrace or in the patio area).

Difficult for the unfit - there are 3 floor levels and the terrace above - so lots of stairs!!

Riad rental - Guests have complete use of the riad, including the maid for 4 hours per day.
Breakfast is not included, but can be provided on request. Breakfast - £3 per person per day.

The Marrakech / Essaouira / Essaouira Region region

It doesn't get any better for holiday makers, sun guaranteed nearly every single day. Gentle breezes help keep Essaouira's temperature perfect. High medina walls protect shoppers and the craftsmen in the souks from the stronger winds in the afternoon but ideal for the windsurfers. Enjoyable cool evenings. End and beginning of the year is the rainy season which makes a Moroccan spring quite magical for 3 months.

Loaded with history and popular with film makers e.g. Orsan Wells, artists and musicians. Originally a haven for hippies. Cannons on the Ramparts face the eastern rocky coastline of the Atlantic which contrasts with the wide sandy bay on the south side. Between the two lies the busy Fishing Port where you are spoilt for choice of fish which can be cooked on the spot!

The Essaouira / Ancient Medina area

Chez DarMa is situated within the ancient walled medina of Essaouira, a Unesco World Heritage City.
Essaouira is famous for its well organized Gnaoua Music Festival at the end of June. The Alliance Franco Marocaine organizes many sculpture, music events throughout the year. Art Galleries and restaurants abound ranging from the very chic and international to the local Morrocan Berber cafes. Many hotels have swimming pools open to the public for a fee, serve alcohol and good meals.

Day trips include Diabat (new golf course), Sidi Kaouki, Had Draa -Traditional Sunday Market, the Potteries of Safi and Argan Oil Co-operatives.

“Wonderful Place to stay” Allison is the most wonderful and thoughtful host you could have, we arrived late with no where to stay and a friend suggested Chez Dar Ma, the best suggestion ever. It is a small but elegant and beautifully decorated riad, it felt better than home and it was so clean and the breakfast was to die for, wonderful fresh fruit and local breads/jams. Nothing was too much trouble, the real bonus was that you were able to make a cup of tea or coffee when ever you liked on the roof top terrace kitchen. I would highly recommend a stay if ever you are in Essaouira

Guestbook for Chez Dar Ma

Essaouira was the highlight of our trip around Morocco. Loved the riad and the help and friendliness of the owners. Spent a lot of the time just relaxing on the wonderful terrace. Essaouira is a great place to unwind and take it easy. We only stayed 3 days but would have stayed longer if we had more time. The Riad was definently my favourite hotel/B&B on our trip around Morocco.

The whole family really enjoyed our week in Essaouira at Chez Dar Ma. The kids loved the Riad, especially playing in the sun on the terrace. Sadly they couldn't take the two adorable cats home with them! Chez DarMa was a wonderful fine for us - quiet, spacious, very comfortable and relaxing but at the same time it has the hussle and bussle of a typical Morocco town on its door-step.
Hope we can come back in the future soon.

Spent 8 brilliant days in Essaouira. So different from England! For 3 21-year-olds looking for time-out after final exams Essaouira and Chez DarMa was the prefect choice. Loved the Riad, and the owners were very helpful. Lots of space and very comfortable. Had Draa market was a real insight, don't think we will ever eat meat again!!!
