The Marrakech / Essaouira / Essaouira Region region
Essaouira is a picturesque Moroccan fishing village. It is steeped in history and culture. Situated as it is on a stunning 7km long beach it is a destination for surfers and watersports enthusiasts. It offers great shopping, restaurants and opportunities for just soaking up the atmosphere. The climate is great all year round.
The summer months are relieved by a good Atlantic breeze, whilst the summer sun is very reliable but you will need a sweater for evenings. There are facilities for horse riding, camel safaris and quad biking adventures.
The Essaouira / Ancient Medina area
There is plenty to do in the local area. Within the Medina are workshops and artisans all worth visiting. Like the rest of Morocco there is great shopping in the local souk. There are great cafes and restaurants to enjoy.
The local fleet of fishing boats returns every evening and it is great to go down and meet the boats and enjoy freshly barbecued fish on the dock.
Outside the Medina is the enormous beach and all the activities can be enjoyed there. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing etc. It is also possible to hire bikes to explore the area. Horse riding and camel trecks as well as quad biking are available. It is possible to visit local argan farms and local co-operatives.

Riad Caro is a wonderful, welcoming (and far more stylish than my) home from home in the centre of bustling Essaouira old town. The luxury of having a bed and bathroom on every floor and the highest roof terrace in town was met only by the luxury of having fresh orange juice, roses, pastries and mint tea delivered to us every morning by the completely wonderful Said who is on hand to arrange airport pick-ups, show you around town and draw extremely detailed maps. Riad Caro is a beautifully made and maintained oasis of calm and a must-visit destination in Morocco. |

The Riad was ideal for our party of 5. The location is perfectly set amongst the souks and a short walk away from the beach. The only drawback in terms of location is the walk from the gate where the car drops you off to the actual Riad. Though there are many luggage carriers available at the gate ready to transport your luggage for a small fee making the walk a lot more comfortable. The ground floor is spacious with a living room, dining area, kitchen, and an extra bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen has everything you need to be able to make a meal. Most of our time in the Riad was spent relaxing in the back room which was decked out with comfortable cushions and beautiful lanterns. The riad was roomy with each bedroom and bathroom being on separate floors. The stairs led to the roof top which has space for sun bathing and views of the surrounding areas. The Riad has no air con so can at times become stuffy however the rooms on the ground floor were cool. We found the front door to be tricky to open however towards the end of our stay we got the hang of it. Said was really helpful and made are stay much more comfortable. He escorted us to the Riad and gave us a map of Essaouira and recommended several activities and restaurants. He arranged camel riding on the beach, body massages within the Riad and a traditional home cooked Tagine. Said was more than happy to help and only a phone call away. He arranged our transfers from Essaouira to Marrakesh and arranged for fresh made cookies and mint tea to be made on the morning of our first day in Essaouira. Said made our stay much more enjoyable and it was always reassuring to know someone was there to offer help! |

The owner of this rental was very helpful, as was the house manager Said. Nothing was too much trouble. In fact he went out of his way to make our holiday as enjoyable as possible. This is the... more |
