The Marrakech / Essaouira / Essaouira Region

Essaouira is a historic, walled town and an Atlantic coast UNESCO World Heritage Site and this bohemian town is where Jimi Hendrix liked to hang out. The Portuguese ramparts and a small working fishing port provide plenty of sites to explore.

All year around family / adventure possibilities include camel riding, dune buggies, trekking, surfing, swimming, tennis, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, wind-surfing, mountain biking.

Essaouira area

Dar Doughri is a short walk through Bab (gate) Marakesh for entry into the ancient Medina (walled town) there are plenty and fruit, vegetables, meats, spices and fresh fish to purchase. The restaurants along the beach or in the Medina also offer a variety of Moroccan, French and Italian cuisine.

In the Souks you will find hidden gems in leather, silver, and ceramics and there are no motorised vehicles allowed inside the Medina, which gives it a very hassle free atmosphere.

If you're a watersports fan then wind, wave and kite surfing is all possible off -shore. Lessons and equipment hire are available.

You can take short day trips to; Moulay Bouzerktoune a stretch of beach with a stronger side shore wind than Essaouira, and offers one of the best wave spots just outside Europe. In the winter with 2 - 5 meters waves this is a spot for confident wave sailors.

Sidi Kaouki to the south of Essaouira this is a 5 km long beach again with a cross shore wind and good waves in the winter. Conditions here can vary and with different entry points you will find the right waves for beginner and more advanced wave sailors.

Festivals - there are many world-famous festivals throughout the year in Essaouira, notably The Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival (annually in June) - a celebration of the mysterious music of the Gnaouas, the product of a mystic tradition with branches as widespread as Haitian voodoo and Brazilian Candomblé.

Guestbook for Dar Doughri

“Thank you for asking how our holiday went. It was fantastic. The Dar Doughri was a real treat. We never imagined it to be that huge! It's well maintained, well equipped and very homely. Furthermore the location is perfect, just a short walk to the Medina. We especially love the rooftop terrace, so much privacy as there are no other buildings over looking it. We had all out breakfast prepared by Karima up there.” (Marc and Stephan September 2009)"

"Thank you so much for everything in Essaouira. We really appreciated to stay in your fabulous accommodation with our "three-generation-family". The evenings on the roofterrace were fantastic, the pastilla organized by Fouad was marvellous and Karima and her little son were so kind.

Absolut empfehlenswert ! (Best regards from Nuremberg in Germany, June, 2009)

"The dar is clean and spacious with plenty of bathrooms and a lovely sheltered roof terrace for sun bathing and relaxing. The kitchen is extremely well equipped too. There's much hilarity to be had with Karima, who speaks no English and only a little French, if you take a Moroccan Arabic phrase book, and engage her in conversation as she prepares a delicious meal. Foad was fantastically helpful ...." (Helen and family, April 2009)
