The Atlantic Coastal Plain region
A great mix of Europe and Africa; Morocco is a great holiday destination for travellers, families and couples alike. The main cities and resorts are well developed and offer plenty for tourists, and there is a lot to see from a cultural and historical point of view. Visit Marrakech for local markets, spices and leather goods, Agadir for great surfing and watersports, or Tangier for amazing Tunisian cuisine.
Essaouira / Ancient Medina area
Essaouira is an historic fishing port on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, well known for its laid back atmosphere, long sandy beach and its well-preserved old walled medina. It has a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere that attracts writers and artists. The medina is in fact now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, being an example of a late 18th century fortified town. Wander around the streets and discover traditional arts and crafts still being practiced today.
If you're a watersports fan, or want to try something new, then the windsurfing in Essaouira is great, with powerful tradewinds blowing over the almost waveless bay. Given its coastal location, there is also plenty of delicious seafood on offer!
How to get there
