Home description

A Moroccan home, this very private, small house with terrace, makes this a very unusual property in the heart of the Medina. No shared entranceor terrace-no apartment above or below. Traditionally tiled throughout, you enter off a narrow street into a hall, off which is the toilet and shower room. Then into the covered courtyard around which are all the rooms and a stair case to the terrace. There is a kitchen, a double bedroom and a large salon. The salon is large with cushioned sofa beds and a table for eating at in the Moroccan way. Electric heating available in winter. Internet cafe 3 minute walk away. Suitable for wheel chair users with some mobility. Please note this is a basic, ground floor apartment with its own terrace-one storey high,sun is on the terrace mid morning to late afternoon-for sea views and all day sunny terrace you need to rent somewhere with access to a roof terrace which will be 2 or 3 floors up.

The Marrakech / Essaouira / Essaouira Region

This is a vast region with different landscapes and climate. The coastal strip has a very pleasant climate -never too hot in the summer 85F and with mild winters -kept this way by constant winds. Rain falls late autumn through to spring but it is intermittent and never continuous . So, from the forested foot hills of the Atlas Mountains across the plains that can be rich with agriculture to arid scrub land in the south and west to the coast with miles of empty sandy beaches. The main city that you are likely to experience getting to Essaouira is Marrakech which is well worth a visit but brace yourself for the experience. Jemel Efna square at night is a place not to be missed. From Marrakech you leave the date palm trees and olive groves to cross the plains which depending on what time of year you travel the landscape is dry, brown and barren or vibrant green with crops and colourful wild flowers. As you get nearer the coast you enter the scrub lands of the unique Thuja and Argane trees-watch out for wild boar here. Eventually you come over the crest of a hill and there below lies Essaouira, shimmering white against the blue Atlantic.

Essaouira / Ancient Medina area

Essaouira is an ideal all year around destination for sun and sea. This fortified busy fishing town is situated on a sandy bay protected from the ocean by islands-making it perfect for world class wind surfing and kite boarding at its best when the trade winds are really blowing in July and August. Beginners surfing but for the more serious surfer 15Kms away -Sidi Kaouki. New spectacular location golf course now open. Arriving in the town you will find the atmosphere laid back and friendly. The winds blow the pleasant smells of Thuja wood and BBQ fish. You will hear chatter in Arabic and Berber and music of all sorts. Your eyes will be dazzled and delighted by the wonderful fabrics, rugs, displays of piled high oranges, spices and irresistible patisseries. There are battlements and cannons which at sunset with the roar of crashing waves against the walls is something to behold. There is also on offer long or short experiences on camels, horses or quad bikes. There are numerous restaurants, exhibitions and a museum. Essaouira is the main place in the world where Thuja burr wood craft work is made-feel free to purchase-it is strictly controlled by the government.

How to get there

Fly to Essaouira, Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca. Check out the following on the internet for latest information on flights- British Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Easyjet, Atlas Blue, Ryan Air, Thomson Fly.
There is frequent affordable transport from all airports. I can provide details of buses and taxis on request. Travel from Marrakech to Essaouira is 2.5 hours and Agadir to Essaouira is 3hours.

We ask for a deposit at time of booking of 33% and balance payment 5 weeks before the dates booked. Our friend in Morocco will meet you and take you to the apartment and be available for help during your stay.

Rental rates are 220€/week, 35€ for short stays, extra nights over a week at 32€/night. The rate in £'s will be calculated at time of booking.

We ask for a deposit of a third of the total amount and the balance 5 weeks before dates booked.

Arrival and departure dates are flexible-ie does NOT have to be Saturday to Saturday. A 3rd person can stay in the salon at no extra cost.
