Dar 91 Zhuzh
About the home
Zhuzh ('Two' in Moroccan) is a spacious and groovy one-bedroom duplex apartment which towers over the roofs of Essaouira's textile district. It features a stylish open plan living room/kitchen; an elegant and quirky double bedroom with ensuite shower room; a chillout zone/extra bed on a mezzanine floor; and a stunning two-level roof terrace with panoramic views across the medina and to the sea. There is also a smaller, studio apartment under Zhuzh, on the first floor, called Tlata ('Three' in Moroccan). This has a double bed on a raised mezzanine, along with a comfortable, open plan kitchen/living area and a shower room/toilet. Zhuzh and Tlata can be rented together or separately - they have their own doors (with padlocks) and share a front door to the street.

Further details indoors:
We've furnished Zhuzh (and Tlata) using mainly reclaimed, fixed-up furniture, working with local craftspeople to create a modern twist on Moroccan design, using handmade tiles, carved stone, marquetry and a variety of locally produced textiles - along with contemporary European items and vintage objects found in junk shops and markets. An explosion of colour, light and textures, It is both a feast for the senses and an oasis of tranquility, set high above the medina - an ideal space in which to recharge your batteries and draw inspiration from the rhythms of Essaouira.
Further details
Within Zhuzh is an extra bed space in the mezzanine/chill out zone (which forms an annexe to the bedroom) to accommodate an extra adult or a child - or it is possible for one person to sleep on the living room sofa (at a cost of £10 per night). Depending on availability, Tlata may also be available...so if both are booked together the maximum capacity would be 4-5.
We offer:
• Unlimited phone and email support before your stay, to help you plan a fantastic holiday
• Our free guide with ideas about places to visit, eat and drink in and around Essaouira, including a few cultural tips and reflections
• Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a bottle of water for your arrival
• Delicious home-made Moroccan biscuits from L'Association Feminine de Bienfaisance "El Khir", a local charity (for week-long bookings)
• A free bowl of fruit, olive oil and spices (for week-long bookings)
For breakfast, we pride ourselves on allowing our guests privacy, so rather than barging in to create a fully prepared tray, we make available provisions for you to make your own breakfast as and when you want it. Our house manager will keep the kitchen stocked with coffee, tea, milk, sugar, jam and butter. She will also deliver oven-fresh bread and/or croissants, plus yogurt, to the bottom of the stairs every morning.
Our house manager comes to the house to clean every day. We provide bath and hand towels (not beach towels) and these are changed regularly, along with the bedding, during your stay.
Additional services we can help arrange
• Taxi transfers to and from airport and/or other cities/locations in Morocco
• Traditional Moroccan evening meals (tagines or cous cous), delivered to the house: not part of our general 'package' but can be organised at additional cost
• Visits to the local hammam
• Local excursions, including horse and camel treks, quad biking
• Cookery courses
• Raffia weaving courses

The Marrakech / Essaouira / Essaouira Region region
According to Unesco, Essaouira is an "exceptional" example of a late-18th-century fortified town, built according to the principles of contemporary European military architecture in a North African context.
It's also a really cool place to hang around in, strolling through the souks, sipping mint tea in the many pavement cafes, and watching the world go by. There's a hugely long, sandy beach, ideal if you're into windsurfing or other watersports activities...or just like long walks. There's a fantastic working harbour and a host of great restaurants and street food outlets. The whole of the old medina is pedestrianised, so it's great for kids.
And then of course there's the weather - an almost permanently blue sky, beautiful sunshine for most of the year, and sunsets to die for.
The Essaouira / Ancient Medina area
Activities available in and around Essaouira include:
* Bike hire
* Horse riding
* Camel riding
* Surfing
* Windsurfing
* Kitesurfing
* Quad biking
* Day trips, eg to Safi (pottery town), Oualidia (oysters), Had Draa (Sunday market)
Essaouira is popular with painters, photographers, writers, poets and musicians. The fusion of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian traditions make it a tolerant and welcoming place.
The town is famous for the Gnaoua Festival, which takes place in the last week of June each year. Other festivals include the Festival des Alizes, Festival des Jeunes Talents and the Festival des Andalousies.
We send all our guests our own guide to the town, with ideas for things to do, places to eat, etc.
