The Atlantic Coastal Plain region
Essaouira is a captivating 18th century seaside town enclosed by battlements. With its whitewashed houses untouched beauty and unique medina, its one of the most attractive sites in Morocco. The town's main assets are its long sandy beaches and the trade winds that give it an exceptionally mild climate all year round, and its proximity to Marrakech.
Essaouira / Ancient Medina area
The town's rich traditions make it a meeting point for Morrocan, African and international arts and crafts. These include numerous festivals and gatherings (for example the Gnaoua Festival). Excursions can range from windsurfing, camel and horse trekking, hiring bikes or a car to explore the surrounding coast and countryside, or a visit to a hamman (steam bath) for a massage you will never forget!
How to get there
You can fly to Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca. BA and Air Maroc operate direct, daily services to all three airports.
Budget airlines Atlas Blue, Easy jet and Ryan Air flies daily direct to Marrakech from Gatwick and Luton.
We can arrange for a taxi to meet you at the airport. Journey time from Marrakech is approx 2.5hrs and from Agadir approx 3 hours. Cost 800 Dirhams.
There is also a good bus service from Marrakech, operated by Supratours, which costs 60 Dirhams (approx £4 / €5.50) and takes 2.5 hours. The journey from Agadir is operated by CTM and takes 3 hrs.
