The Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz Region
Essaouira is a picturesque Moroccan fishing village. It is steeped in history and culture. Situated as it is on a stunning 7km long beach it is a destination for surfers and watersports enthusiasts. It offers great shopping, restaurants and opportunities for just soaking up the atmosphere. The climate is great all year round.
The summer months are relieved by a good Atlantic breeze, whilst the summer sun is very reliable but you will need a sweater for evenings. There are facilities for horse riding, camel safaris and quad biking adventures.
There is plenty to do in the local area. Within the Medina are workshops and artisans all worth visiting. Like the rest of Morocco there is great shopping in the local souk. There are great cafes and restaurants to enjoy.
The local fleet of fishing boats returns every evening and it is great to go down and meet the boats and enjoy freshly barbecued fish on the dock.
Outside the Medina is the enormous beach and all the activities can be enjoyed there. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing etc. It is also possible to hire bikes to explore the area. Horse riding and camel trecks as well as quad biking are available. It is possible to visit local argan farms and local co-operatives.

"Disappointing accommodation - tired and neglected"
We have just spent 10 nights at the RIad Caro and overall found this to be a pretty disappointing experience. The property could be so nice and offers such potential but simply fails to deliver. In sp… More
I am sorry I have taken so long to respond to your review. It is our first negative one so I have been unsure what to say! I apologise that you arrived at the end of a very busy summer season, the house had been booked throughout the year and I think had suffered for it. We usually spring clean and repaint twice a year, and it was obviously overdue by September. This has now been rectified as has any cleaning that was overdue. With regards to the breakfast, I am sorry that you had to put up with 10 days of a breakfast that you did not enjoy. This could have been so easily rectified with a quick word to Naimah, or Sandra or an email to me. Naimah is happy to provide anything from a cup of coffee to a full Moroccan feast but she does need an indication of what you would like... I am also very upset to hear that there were glue sniffers in the street – this is something that the medina police take very seriously and they certainly would have been moved on immediately, had we known about it. Finally, I am sorry that you don't like our eclectic style of décor…. Everyone else seems to love it! I did notice that amongst the numerous reviews that you left on places in Essaouira there was also a very negative one about a certain restaurant which is universally considered to be the coolest and most stylish in town you described as a 'weird little place”. I also note that of your many recent reviews Premier Inn Gatwick and Premier Inn Bradford have been your favourite places to stay, so I might suggest that the quirkiness of Essaouira was possibly never going to be the right fit for you? I would be happy to send you a full refund, as I would be to anyone else who found their holiday as disappointing as you did, although I am confident from our other reviews that generally all of our guests love the riad and the town. Best wishes,

Can't recommend this Riad enough!
The caretaker was very helpful and met us at the gates of the city and led us 5 minutes through the labyrinthine streets of Essaouira right to the door of the property. Upon entry you are taken aback by the epic height and brightness of the central light well which rises up 4 floors from the foyer. Really quite magnificent! We were greeted with mint tea and cookies on arrival and given a map of the best restaurants etc. The property is incredibly tastefully decorated and has a beautiful kitchen and nice bathrooms. The Sitting room is really cosy and lovely and the beds were very comfortable. The maid makes a lovely breakfast each morning which we had on the roof terrace which has incredible views over the whole city and you can even see the ocean.
Overall it was a superb experience all around and gets my full recommendation.
