Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 5

Key Info
  • Great for children of all ages
  • Car advised
  • Pets welcome
  • Private garden

A 16th century fellside farmhouse and attached barn near Boot in lovely Eskdale, this delightful character cottage has been renovated to a high standard, yet retains all its original features with exposed beams and slate floors. Superbly situated in a south facing, slightly elevated position with its own garden and ample private parking, it enjoys extensive views across the valley to Harter Fell and Birker Force. A nearby footpath leads to Eel Tarn and the Slight Side route to Scafell. Situated between the iconic Woolpack Inn (10 mins walk) and the village of Boot (15 minutes walk) with its friendly inns, water mill and the terminus of the famous Ravenglass & Eskdale minature railway.

Little Christcliff will suit walkers of all abilities; you can choose from simple strolls alongside the beautiful River Esk just a few minutes away, more challenging routes up nearby Harter Fell, Green Crag and Harknott, or make a full day's excursion to the top of Scafell straight from your door. 20 minutes drive takes you to nearby Wasdale, home of 'Britain's Favourite View' and its dramatic mountain scenery. Not feeling energetic? Just settle down by the wood burning stove and work you way through your latest paperback or, if the weather's fine, you can laze in the garden, listen to the sounds of the fells, and just take in the wonderful view.

The Cumbria/Lake District

The English Lake District, immortalised in Woodsworth's poetry and the delightful stories of Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit & friends). Although relatively small, the Lake District offers a wide range of rural experiences throughout the changing English seasons.

The Western Lake District - home to England's highest mountain (Scafell Pike), deepest lake (Wastwater) and smallest church (St Olafs) but also tranquil, unspoilt valleys where time has changed little. Eskdale is, arguably, the jewel of these with its deciduous woodland, granite outcrops, tiny villages, ancient farmhouses and friendly, traditional 'real ale' pubs.

As you approach the famous Hardknott Pass, upper Eskdale appears in all its splendid isolation - a mini-wilderness with the summits of Scafell, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags -as described in the iconic Wainwright Guides, set in a dramatic landscape.

"Beautiful location, gorgeous little cottage, highly recommended!"

Really lovely place, sadly we had traditional rain in a huge downpour the entire time so had to retire to the pub and enjoy the log burner. The pub does amazing food so no hardship to have a whisky then snuggle in front of the fire. Walks are all around, we ventured out in spite of the weather but really were drenched - ah well, back to the cottage for tea and biscuits! Would definitely go again!

"Beautiful cottage, peaceful, gorgeous views, lovely people, highly recommended"

Malcolm and Jenny have made this cottage a wonderful place to stay. Set in our favourite part of the lake district. We have stayed in many lovely cottages in this area. But Little Christcliffe, is by far the best! We would highly recommend a holiday here. The walks from the door are superb, the neighbours are most welcoming, and the cottage is warm cosy and inviting. We haven't anything negative to say at all about our stay. Truly perfect. We will return again.
Thank you both very much.
