The Cumbria/Lake District region
The Lake District is England premier National Park with it's highest mountains, longest and deepest lakes and stunning scenery a must visit and the local food, beer and hospitality is not to be missed either.
The Eskdale area
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing.
The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea. - The Green station is just five minutes walk from Randlehow Cottage. There are five pubs in the valley (the Bower House Inn and the George IV are just a ten minute walk away), all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food.
