The Ibiza region
IBIZA BEACHS: has some of the most magnificent beaches in the Mediterranean. Most people think of Ibiza as a party island. Well if you take the time to drive around the island, you will discover some excellent and almost deserted beaches.
Most of the quieter beaches can be found in the north of the island. Try visiting Xarracca , Rencli de S'illot or Xuclar. When I visited these beaches at the beginning of the season there were only one or two people on them. Have a look at the Xarracca pictures and you will see what I mean.
Cala Vadella (near Es Vedra ) is a really nice bay, it's closed off from the sea, so if you can't handle heat keep away from here. The water is completely calm and crystal clear, ideal for snorkling or diving. You can hire jet skis, pedaloes, relax and have a massage or go for a snack or meal at one of the excellent restuarants. Sundays here is particularly busy and parking can be a problem, but worth the effort. If you are a strong swimmer, it is possible to swim to Es Vedra
If you don't have access to a car and are in San Antonio, go down to the marina and take boats to Cala Bassa or Cala Conta , both of these beaches are excellent for families, as the water is very shallow for a long way out and is usually very calm. Cala Conta is the better of the two, but the boats do not go there on Sundays.
San Antonios' beaches are not really up to much, thought they were rebuilt earlier in the season, but if you don't have time to go anywhere else, they will do. Try get a space in front of Itaca, next door to Bar M and when the sun goes down, you can pop in for a meal. The prices are very good and their standards are very high. You can get two meals including a drink for under 15€ / £10.
Cala Salada is very popular with locals on Sundays and the restaurant here is usually busy, it's not the least expensive, but again, the standard is very good.
IBIZA RESTAURANT: Ibiza has, some great restaurants you would only expect to see in the cosmopolitan resorts of Spain.
Take a stroll along the marina of Ibiza Town and the choice is endless. Every evening from around 8pm the place comes alive with people. There are literally 1000s of people walking around the marina front and the quaint little back streets trying to chose from the massive selection of cafes and restaurants. Fish is a must here, it's as fresh as you can get. Shellfish are in tanks on the open-air and open fronted restaurants on the marina side. The back streets have their tables outside, where there is only just enough space for passers bye to stroll by.
Obviously Ibiza town is not the only place with great restaurants on the island, almost every town can offer you the same delicious food. Try Santa Eulalia, Cala Llonga, Es Cana or San Antonio.
People tend to think that San Antonio is for the beers boys, this is not the case. San Antonio can hold it's head up high when it comes to serving quality food. These can range from traditional Tapas bars, through Italian, chinese and Indian restaurants.
Below is a very short list of some of the eateries that ae available to you, the tourist
BANYAN PALACE THAI RESTAURANT On the top road of San Antonio bay What can we say? Excellent Thia food in an enclose private garden. A little expensive, but it's truly worth it
CHIRINGUITO RESTAURANT El Chiringuito is situated in a private little cove at the beach of Cala Gracionetta. It can be found on the road from San Antonio to Santa Agnes. The restaurant is one of the best you will find in the area.
CURRY CLUB On the crossroads of C/ Isadora Macabich & C/ Sant Antoni Set in a tropical garden with soft lighting, this is an excellent getaway from it all Indian restaurant. A great treat while on holiday
Davids Pizzeria David's make the best pizzas and lasagne on the island. The prices are great, special deals are on offer most nights, where you can get a starter, pizza and beer or soft drink for less than 10€
FISHERMANS KITCHEN Website Have a varied menu offering a choice of snacks and main meals. You can also choose from our daily selection of mouth watering specials. The Fishermans has a great chef who makes some of the tasties meals in San Antonio.
Galleon bar restaurant The Galleon is a great place to get away from the Westend. The food is excellent and the prices are very good. Try the home-made curries they are to die for.
Jamels Restaurant Jamels restaurant is nestled in a little sidestreet in the heart of San Antonios' Westend. Mediteranean with an Algerian influence. Not to be missed.
Rincon De Pepe San Antonio Tapas bar with a good selection of large or small or portions. A little expensive, but some say worth the price.
S'EMBARCADOR By the beach between San An town and Bay very large but roomy restaurant. The food and service is second to none. You can chose your seating area, roof-top, inside or in the gardens. Try the fresh fish and steaks, only the best quality. The staff will make you feel extra special and are very attentative.
TIJUANA Next to San Antonios famous 'shouting man' (Ug) monument Typical Tex Mex restaurant with a great aptmosphere. Prices are good, as is the food.
VILLA MERCEDES Eat al fresco as the warm night draws in and the lights across the harbour twinkle in the distance. This sea of tranquillity is the epitome of the best of San Antonio, which is over looked by so many
IBIZA-CLUBS: What can you say about the clubs in Ibiza, they are simply the best in the world. They vary from the small intimate intense venues such as DC10, to the largest club in the world, Privilege.
We bring you a guide to the best of them.
Most people (even non-clubbers) have heard of Manumission, Privilege, Space and Pacha, but these are just a handful of the nights that Ibiza has to offer.
There are several major clubs located on the western side of the island, in four main area's, and from the beginning of June to the end of September each year they play host to some of the wildest, most spectacular club nights you will ever experience.
Each club will have a varied selection of club nights, ranging from Manumission at Amnesia on a Friday night, and Circo Loco at DC10 on a Monday, thru' to Pure Pacha on a Friday night at Pacha.
Whether your taste in music is pure House, Electronica, Hip Hop, RnB, Trance, UKG, Breaks & Beats, Ambient, Happy Hard-Core and more recently Rock & Indie, one of the clubs in Ibiza has something to offer you.
The major holiday area's of Ibiza are served by the major clubs, but then again they are never very far away, and most evenings the clubs lay on transport, so you may never be too far away from a great experience.
In San Antonio, you have the major clubs of Eden and Es Paradis, and in San Antonio Bay the smaller venue of Summun. Eden attracts the BBC's top Radio One DJ's Pete Tong, Judge Jules and Dave Pearce, with their Wonderland, Judgement Sunday's, and Tidy vs Advanced nights. Twice As Nice have been bringing in the RnB crowds for the last few years, as the island diversifies it’s musical options. The spectacularly pyramided shaped Es Paradis is famous for its Water & Foam parties, where they have the ability to flood the central section of the dance floor.
Located on either side of the main highway between San Antonio and Ibiza Town are Privilege and Amnesia. Manumission packs the clubbers in every Friday night with a spectacular show, and the best dance music around at Amnesia. Amnesia, with it’s new Terrace for 2008 also host the super club Cream on a Thursday night, bringing the cream of the worlds DJ's to their decks. Amnesia’s Ice Cannons have been sent from heaven, it's a hot sweaty, packed night of Sven Vath (Cocoon – Monday) at his full on best and the roar of the Ice Cannons momentarily blocks out the rhythm, but not the booming beat, and you are cooled beyond your wildest dreams, ready for another onslaught pure pleasure. Privilege doesn’t disappoint either, with the return to Ibiza of Tiesto on a Monday night, and Mauro Picotto’s Meganite on a Wednesday. Although in the middle of the island, away from the centre's of population, Ibiza's splendid DiscoBus service runs thru' the night ferrying expectant clubbers to their preferred night of ecstasy and wending the weary home back to their beds, as the sun rises. There is nothing better than watching the sun rise up thru' the big windows in Privilege, or sitting by the side of the road waiting for the bus as the first rays of the sun peak across the hilltops and warm your cheeks, and you know, it's been a great night, and the weather isn't going to disappoint you this day either.
Playa D'en Bossa, has the world famous Space, and is a haven for the full on clubber being a day time club. Opening in the middle of the afternoon, thru’ to the early hours of the morning, its opening is traditionally marks the start of the clubbing season, at the beginning of June, and it’s closing is the end of the season in early October.
Near to the airport just outside of Playa D'en Bossa is their other claim to fame is a little, unpretentious venue, full of life's most amazing people, they gather every Monday to delight in the most eclectic mix of music for the rest of the day. Most venues have multiple dance arena’s, DC10 only has two, but the only place to be seen is the Terrace.
In Ibiza Town, there is the original night club of Ibiza, Pacha, 4 rooms of magic, filled with some of the world's most beautiful people. However, the rest of them are at the most glamorous venue on the island, in the most perfect position, El Divino. Set on the edge of the port, jutting out into the harbour, For a true Balearic Beat sound, try Penelope's, closed for many years, it re-opened last year under London clubs’ Heaven banner, and is drawing back some of the islands original true spirit.
There are a number of small venues in the West End of San Antonio, Playa Den Bossa and Ibiza Town, catering for a very specific crowd, and it isn't all pure dance, try GroundZero in San Antonio for the best in Rock & Indie, Soul City for the purest in RnB, and UKG, Anfora in Ibiza old Town for the rainbow people and if you want to try out daytime clubbing try Bora Bora Beach Bar on Playa De'n Bossa beach, dancing in the sun, cool. Making a big noise on the scene in San Antonio is Hush, one of the new venues that is beginning to redefine the West End of San An, and is lining up again this season to be one of "The" venues to visit. These venues are mainly free entry and people will wander between as their fancy takes them.
Also catering for the Indie Rock scene, is Ibiza Rocks, with live bands playing at the IbizaRocks Hotel, and a venue to be disclosed, as the previous venue of Bar M isn’t big enough.
All the major club nights like to hold a promotional pre party at one or more the bars on the island, to give people a taster of what to expect, sell discounted tickets, and inform clubbers of transport arrangements. One of the most popular areas is in San Antonio at the world famous Sunset Strip bars, but for those in San Antonio Bay there is BN3, with a pre party every night of the week, plus transport. So, you can enjoy the spectacular sunset, listen to some of the worlds best DJ's and then go on to the greatest nights of your life.
Clubbing in Ibiza, isn't like going out once a week to your favourite night spot, it is a complete life experience crammed into the most intense week or two weeks of your life. Where else in the world can you see the cream of the world's DJ's every night.
Pack your favourite outfits and get out to the White Isle this summer for the time of your life.
