The Devon region
South Devon is an area of outstanding natural beauty. the coastline and beaches are outstanding, and Dartmoor, the last wilderness area in southern England is nearby. there are many interesting towns and villages , large and small of interest including Plymouth, with its national maritime aquarium and historic Barbicon and Hoe.
Totnes, Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth with numerous attractions are all within a half hour drive. The region is famous for its natural produce, organic farming and superb fish and shellfish.
Locally, Burraton House is situated in a hamlet of Burraton,between Dartmoor and the Sea, aproximately 3.5 miles in each direction, in tranquil pastoral scenery 100m off a very quiet lane but with excellent access within 10 minutes of the A38, the main route in S. Devon. Nearby are several picturesque villages with excellent range of restaurants varying from traditional pubs to award winning cuisine .
As a change from supermarkets there is nearby the splendid Riverford Farm shop and cafe restaurant in our nearest village of Yealmpton supplying excellent produce including locally produced meat , cheeses, vegetables of exceptional quality and a fish counter. Addtiionally there is a medical surgery,post office, local shop and garage. The South Devon Coast Path is easily accessible and there are many beaches nearby varying from wild beaches and bays for swimming , and the famous Bantham which is the principal surfing beach of S. Devon. The estuaries provide opportunities for windsurfing, kayaking, paddle boarding. it is also possible to hire boats at Salcombe, Dittisham, Dartmouth and Plymouth.
Nightlife is available in Plymouth with taxi service at £20. each way.
