About the home

Set in a lovely rural region of northern France, under one hour away from Calais and Boulogne ferry ports and Eurotunnel, this cottage has been designed to make life easy for wheelchair users - accredited with Paralyse de France - and makes a superb base for anyone wishing to explore this part of France. Tastefully decorated and providing WHEELCHAIR access throughout, this cottage is situated in a small village close to Montreuil sur Mer. Set in the courtyard of the owner's property, it boasts a comfortable living/dining/kitchen area with full size oven, hob and microwave, a large family bedroom with double bed and two single beds (separated by privacy curtain) and a large walk-in wet room with spacious shower, basin and wc - shower and wc have grab bars to facilitate access. Electric heating , gas, bedlinen and towels are included in rental price.

Alfresco dining in the evenings on the terrace or perhaps spend a day lounging around the pool. For the more adventureous, hire a donkey in the village or explore the lovely villages and towns that grace this unspoilt area. St Omer and its superb 18 hole championship golf course is just 20 minutes away, or visit the old city of Montreuil sur Mer with is gastronomic restaurants and ramparts to wander on. Beach lovers will not fail to be impressed by the 250km of sandy beaches that stretch along this coastline. Whether you want sophisticated resorts like Le Touquet with its designer shopping and casino or more unspoilt coastal treasures, there is a beach to please everyone.

The Northern France / Nord-Pas-de-Calais region

This unspoilt region of northern France offers much for everyone, be it sporting or just relaxing. With superb sandy beaches to enjoy with everything from sandcastles to sandsurfing, experience the challenging 9 golf courses in the region, go fishing in nearby lakes, historic towns with superb shopping or just village markets, there is something for the whole family.

Easily reached by motorway from the northern ports, it also offers miles of winding country lanes and unspoilt villages. For history lovers, the WW2 museums at La Coupelle are fascinating for all age groups or travel the short distance to Arras for history on WW1. Bird watchers will love seeing wild herons in the pastures or visit Le Marquenterre, the largest migratory bird sanctuary in northern Europe. For those with a passion for food, discover the wonderful restaurants and brasseries that offer superb cuisine for all pockets, restaurants can be booked for you.

The Ergny area

For a different day out, hire a donkey from the village and take to the tracks and lanes that wander around the village - don't forget to pack a picnic and bottle of wine - the donkey will carry it for you. For the young at heart, enjoy the local fun parks of Bagatelle and Denlys Park, great for the whole family, or just 2 hours away via the motorway is the superb Parc Asterix (open from April onwards).

On Saturdays and Sundays throughout the region, great bargains can be found at the local Brocantes (boot fairs) with their great atmospheres, festivals abound in the region, from the festival of the various "giants of the north" to the herring festival at Etaples in November. The first weekend in October sees the RALLYE LE TOUQUET passing through the village and going directly past the cottage, so for a ringside seat with superb close up views watching this superb event book early.

Eurotunnel is the fastest and give direct access onto the A16 motorway - the cottage is 50 minutes from here
P&O and Seafrance offer value for money crossing by ferry - book early for special offers throughout the year
Norfolk Line runs from Dover into Zeebrugger and acces to the cottage from Zeebrugger is just over one hour.

“Great little place to get away from it all” Our hosts Davis and Sarah were very helpful throughout the stay with various tips and advice. We were very pleased with the gite generally though felt the advert could have been worded a little better. There is no private garden for the use of the guests as there is another gite, with guests, within the grounds, and these people also share the pool. The pool is outside the second gite, so although the ad states that the owners won't use it to ensure complete privacy, this doesn't really apply because it is shared.

“Beautiful countryside and A lovely holiday.” Fantastic service, Sarah and David very very helpful and friendly. Full of useful information on everything you may want to do. Property very nice and comfortable in a lovely quiet area. Perfect location for quiet times but also not too far away for days out. Beaches half an hour and most things you can get too in an hour. We perhaps went too early in the year(may) with young children as the French only open the parks on half terms and summer holidays but we still kept busy, children loved collecting the eggs from Sarah and David's chickens and they were very tasty. We would definitely consider another visit but would do so later in year next time. Response: Thank you for your feedback and I am glad that you had a good holiday here. I am sorry that you feel disappointed regarding the location of the pool however our advert clearly states that this is a cottage with above ground shared pool, your own private dining terrace, and shared garden.

“A very friendly & relaxing holiday” This was the second time my wife, son & I have stayed at Rose Cottage. It is situated only a relatively short distance from Calais in a region with lots of places to visit. The cottage is excellent & the Bing family brilliant hosts, going out of their way to be helpful & making your stay special.

“Lovely rural location, easy access to beaches, extremely friendly and helpful owners” Rose Cottage in the village of Ergny is a fantastic find. Set in a quiet rural location but with easy access to beaches you get the best of both worlds. You could be in the heart of rural France but you are less than one hours drive from Calais and Boulogne. The owners live on site and are always available to help or recommend a good beach, restaurant or fun park for the kids. The cottage is cosy, well appointed and has everything you would need for a self-catering holiday. This was our second visit with our 2 young children and we plan to stay again in the future.
