About the home

The Villa was deliberately built on a quiet hillside in amongst the olive groves with majestic views of the sea and the mountains. A quiet, restful place but only 5 minutes from the busy town of Eretria and only an hour by bridge or ferry to the centre of Athens and a little more for Corinth, Delphi, Thessalonika and many, many more historic and exciting places.

The island of Evia is wonderful because there are very few tourists and an all year round thriving Greek community. The island that has yet to be discovered by the tourist companies and so full of unspoilt sites and bays. There are few hotels and so this villa is an excellent opportunity for a base to investigate this island and this side of the Greek mainland.

The patio is large enough for the dining table and chairs and so perfect for a cool breakfast with an outstanding view.

The upstairs balcony is accessible from both bedrooms via patio doors.
It has a young private garden of about a third of an acre with secure fencing around it and a unique iron gate, (we watched them make it to our design) and a large shed that has mostly been used for storage of bicycles!

Further details

In the summer, we uniquely charge just a one off payment of 950 euros for the villa for any specified stay between 7 days and one full month! (not transferable). With the pound and the dollar being so strong now against the euro this is a an amazing deal for 4 to 6 people. Longer rents available so if you want to stay for a year to try out Greek life for real then please just ask.

The Sporades/Evia region

Evia is the second largest Greek island covering about 3,700 sq km of land on the east coast of Greece to the north of Athens. It has 678 km of coastline with large areas of the island being sparsely populated as there are under 230,000 inhabitants and development is restricted.

The scenery is spectacular with mountains up to 1743 m, forests and a stunning coastline with numerous beaches dotted along it. It is around one hour’s drive from Athens and its international airport, via the two road bridges at Halkida which is a popular resort all the year around for the Athenians and its other visitors. The capital, Halkida, has rail and coach links to Athens and there are various ferry routes at Karystos, Marmari, Styra, Almiropotamos, Eretria, Kymi, Arkitsa, Agiokampos and Asimini linking Evia to the mainland and adjoining islands.

The Eretria / Kontroni area

Eretria is a lovely south facing seaside resort of about 3,500 inhabitants in central Evia, about 30 minutes east of Halkida (19 km), which has a fascinating ancient history. It is even older than Athens having being mentioned by Homer in his “Illiad” and dates back to Neolithic times (3,500-3,000BC).
There are numerous Tavernas and cafes along the coast for that typical Greek waterfront restaurant experience.
The town has an excellent ferry service.

It is best to fly to Athens which you can do via many different airlines to their new International airport. British Airways, EasyJet and Olympus all fly there plus others.
Pick up your hire car at the airport.
From the airport its about an hours drive to Eretria via the motorways and over the suspension bridge to the island of Evia.
From Eretria its 5 minutes through country lanes for which we will provide a map.
Our agent will arrange to meet you to ensure you get there OK.
