About this location
The Brittany region
The nearest coast is the Baie du Mont St Michel just 15 mins drive away. This endless beach has one of the longest tides in Europe, revealing miles of beach that sees sand yachting, kite flying, horse riding and a wealth of other activities.
also nearby at Rotheneuf, there is a delightful rocky cove with a soft sandy beach. The rocks are perfect for children to explore looking for crabs and small fish. There are public toilets/changing facilities here too.
Chateau des Ormes is less than 10 mins by car and boasts two fabulous courses with challenging woods and water features. It also has a driving range, pro shop and excellent bar/restaurant. Handicap cards are required.
About 20 mins drive is Le Tronchet, another excellent and slightly more open course that is also quite challenging
Nearest villages are Epiniac less than a mile or La Boussac less than a mile in the opposite direction. Both have good bakeries and La Boussac also has a butcher and pharmacy. Dol de Bretagne is less than 10 minutes away and boast three good supermarkets, discount supermarkets, and just about every shop you could ever need. Combourg to the south is a 20 min drive and has good shopping and restaurants. Pontorsson is about 20 mins in the direction of Mont St Michel and has good shops/restaurants.
On a practical note, fresh bread and pastries can be collected each morning from the baker in Epiniac or the one in La Boussac. For other provisions, there are two big supermarkets in on the Epiniac side of Dol (Carrefour and Super U), while there is a further slightly smaller Intermarche in the town itself. Dol has many wonderful artisans offering butchery, pies, cakes, fresh fish and much more.
There are so many superb restaurants to try it would take a year to sample them all! From traditional Breton Gallettes (savoury buckwheat pancakes) and Crepes (sweet pancakes) to grills, fine dining, pizzeria and increasingly more exotic offerings as well.
No visit to the region would be complete without sampling the delicious seafood from the Baie du Mont St Michel. Visit Cancale and be astounded by a harbourside with a grand parade of restaurants offering Assiettes de Fruits de Mare - the oysters are the best in the world!
In summer, there are many festivals to explore. In summer in Dol de Bretagne, for example, there are Breton dancers and musicians every Tuesday evening in the main street. It's very pleasant to sit outside a cafe with a glass of madam Chardonnay's finest and watch the festivities.

"Unclean, poor maintenance and service"
Good location and the potential to be a beautiful holiday cottage. Unfortunately on arrival we had no gas and were told to go and buy some ourselves. Halfway through the week the water was cut off lea… More
