The Midi-Pyrenees region

Located in the picturesque and unspoiled Lot Valley in the Midi-Pyrénées, an enchanting region between Bordeaux and Provence, that offers 10 of "The Most Beautiful Villages in France," more than any other region in all of France.

Aveyron is a unique, inspirational and timeless place. This captivating region is home to the Pilgrim's spiritual path from France to Spain, the Route of the Lords of Rouergue and the Knights Templar and Hospitaller villages, each footpath offering an opportunity to walk in history's path, revealing the heritage of the Aveyron and unlocking one's own ancient memories. A place that returns one to something authentic and restores one's physical and spiritual strength.

Places of interest include Rodez, founded in the 6th century by a Celtic tribe and home to a historic pink sandstone Gothic cathedral, with the impressive Soulages museum. Millau, the former capital of the Gallo-Roman ceramics under the Roman Empire, boasts the highest bridge in the world and the Roquefort caves, and is still considered one of the best places to buy handmade leather goods in France. Cave paintings including the Foissac caves, as well as the famous Pech Merle and Lascaux caves, are a wonderful day trip. Laguiole is not far with its famous knives and one of the top restaurants in the world, Michel Bras, with 3*** Michelin stars.

Also a region where food is sacred with delicious regional specialties including succulent Aubrac beef, lamb, duck, foie gras, local trout, pink garlic, wild strawberries and much more! Located in a picturesque wine region with a handful of wineries to explore.

For sports enthusiasts, there are 2 canoeing kayaking centers, horseback riding, lots of walking paths and hiking trails, golf and more - or just kick back on the terrace and take in the views and sound of nature.

Lots of medieval riverside villages to explore in immediate area that are completely unspoiled. Conques, a UNESCO heritage site, is quite unchanged from centuries past and is a major staging post for the pilgrims along the spiritual path.

"Second to none: wonderful accommodation, beautiful location and the most considerate hosts imaginable."

We were already dedicated to this lovely part of France, but were still bowled over by this delightful cottage, its facilities and the surrounding amenities, including fantastic walks, cultural sights and pretty, 'real' villages. The owners, Rain and Lance, did everything possible to make our stay as pleasant as possible, even presented us with freshly harvested, delicious vegetables from their own garden! Their expert advice on the locality, food and wine and local practices were invaluable.

I have stayed at Sweet French cottages twice and will be back again and again. It is simply perfect, effortlessly chic and totally serene. There are special places in the world with energy that heals and this is one of them.
