The Province of Munster region
From sandy beaches to fantastic surf, unique geological landscapes to ancient history, Mid Clare has it all. Nature aplenty and music rich, you'll love all that is within an easy drive of An Tí Glas. If shopping is your thing, look no further than the mighty cities of Galway and Limerick.
the Clare coast
The West Coast including the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, for surf, sea and sand, the music heart of Clare in Doolin and Dolphin watching in the Shannon estuary. The Loop Head peninsula in southwest Clare is well worth a visit. The lighthouse is now open for visitors and there are walking/cycling trails round the head.
The Burren National Park now a designated GEOPARK is a unique area of limestone features including many dolmens, megalithic tombs, celtic crosses, standing stones, burial chambers, and a ruined Cistercian Abbey from the 12th century. You'll also find villages abandoned since famine times and green roads on which you can walk for miles without ever seeing a car. And if wildflowers are your thing, go in spring time when you will find rare wildflowers such as the spring gentian and orchids. See our links page for guided walks.
Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is perfect for family day out. Moher Farm Pet Farm near the Cliffs of Moher enable the little ones to get up close to animals. Ailwee Caves situated in the heart of the Burren for those who want to see what is going on underground. See the largest collection of native apple trees in the country at the Irish Seed Savers Association.
Visit Galway City for music, culture, the arts, the Galway Races and a fantastic Saturday Market. Limerick City is the home of Munster Rugby, St Johns Castle, the River Shannon and of course plenty of shopping!
If you like Irish music, you'll be spoiled for choice in Clare! Milltown Malbay is home to the annual Willie Clancy Music Festival, whilst Doolin is famous for it's traditional music sessions.
Whether walking, cycling or fishing is your thing, or entertaining the kids is a must, An Tí Glas is the perfect place to be. Perhaps you love cooking and want fresh organic vegetables, fruit and eggs on a daily basis? The ability to exercise, explore, eat well and get back to nature is second to none here.
walk, cycle, explore
We are situated on the Mid Clare Way a long-distance walking route. There are many other lovely walks in the immediate area and we have the maps for you! Country lanes and forestry tracks make the area ideal for cycling, especially mountain biking. We are keen mountain bikers and know all the best places! There are a number of lakes nearby, a bog with all its habitats at the bottom of the property and open mountain all within strolling distance.
Kids will love our big trampoline, swings, mini soccer pitch, and plenty of trees for climbing. Don't forget the animals! A dog, cats and chickens on your doorstep are complemented by our neighbours horses and cows! And the polytunnels, reed bed and bog will fascinate the young ones.
Babysitting available! Discover the local music and pub scene while your kids are safely tucked up!
fishing, bird watching & nature walks
Great pike fishing in Rathclooney Lake and we can advise you on the nearest trout fishing.
A good range of birds can be seen in the locality, from Hen Harriers to Cuckoos, Treecreepers to Great Crested Grebes.
This area of Clare has a rich biodiversity, including deer, pine martens, moths, lizards, butterflies, badgers, foxes, wild flowers and trees. We have the books! If butterflies are your thing, read what Ken Bond of UCC has to say about The Moths and Butterflies of Rathclooney!
A wide variety of vegetables, salads and fruit are all grown here and available in season. Our free-range organic chickens can't wait to give you the most fantastic breakfast you have ever had! You can seek out other local producers at Ennis Farmers' Market every Friday morning.
