The Cumbria/Lake District region

England's largest National Park includes Scafell Pike - its highest mountain, Wastwater - its deepest lake, and thriving communities like Keswick, Cockermouth and Whitehaven.
More than 3500kms of "rights of way" over the Fells and around 12 of the largest lakes in England.
The Ennerdale / Lake District National Park area
".........north of Wasdale is the neighbouring valley of Ennerdale, often cited by seasoned Lakelanders as the most scenic corner of the entire National Park"
"Ennerdale remains entirely free of the traffic jams, cruise boats and heaving crowds you'll find at many of the region's other beauty spots." - Quotations used by permission from Lonely Planet Lake District Guide.
As recently visited by Julia Bradbury for BBC's Countryfile, Ennerdale is England's wildest valleys. It is one of the most remote lakes, offering a place to escape even in the high season. Yet it is only a 20 minute drive from a variety of towns and areas. Ennerdale lake is a deep glacial lake, 2.5 miles long, ¾ mile wide and 148 feet deep. The water is exceptionally clear and contains a variety of fish. It is the only lake that does not have a road running alongside it.
Around Ennerdale, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied.
Hundreds of walks - from gentle lakeside strolls to energetic mountain hikes
Rock climbing
Mountain biking in Ennerdale Forest
Fishing in the lake (permit required)
Pony trekking
Go-Karting
The nearest village, Ennerdale Bridge, has a church and two public houses (both serving good food and a variety of beers, including real ale).

Me and my family have just spent 4 nights over Christmas at this cottage. It is in a remote location but this is it's main asset. If you're looking for somewhere quiet to spend quality time with the family, this is the place to go. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday, especially the AGA oven. The bedrooms are all tastefully decorated and the sitting rooms are very homely. There is ample space in the cottage for everyone. The grounds are beautiful with stunning views and lots of places to explore. None of the party where able to get a mobile signal but this did not bother us as there is free wi-fi provided. The only criticisms we have of the property was the state of the driveway, it had some large holes in places and one member of our party damaged the exhaust on their car. Both sitting rooms would also benefit from larger, more modern TV screens, as the sitting rooms are big enough to accommodate 16 people. |

9 of us stayed at this cottage for a hen's weekend. Absolutely loved the "cottage" and the scenery is beautiful. Plenty of bathrooms for everyone, the beds were amazingly comfortable (everyone commented on this) and an easy walk into the tiny village of Ennerdale Bridge. Would highly recommend staying here as a central point for touring around or just to get away from everything. |

I stayed here with 8 female friends for a long weekend. The place is amazing! The website describes the property precisely, but even then the size of the rooms and the sheer size of the place was still a surprise. There was more than enough room for us, and more than enough space in the kitchens to prepare our meals. The rooms are huge, yet warm, and the location is great. The beds, duvet and pillows are so comfy. There are lots of different walks that can be taken directly from the property, and others are only a short drive away. The nearest pubs are a mile away along a country lane. We pre-arranged a grocery delivery (with Tesco) which came just after we arrived, and we booked caterers for the Saturday evening. This place is a little piece of heaven and even after one night I was so relaxed. I would recommend this property to anyone who likes to get away from it all. If the opportunity ever presents itself, I would return in a heartbeat. |
Guestbook for Far Moor End
OUR MOST RECENT GUEST COMMENTS:
Hi - I just wanted to send you a quick email to say how much we enjoyed staying in your fabtastic house. It looked like the perfect place from the pictures though when we arrived it was even more fabulous. The setting is just beautiful and the amount of space in the house was just amazing! We wanted for nothing - the amount of kitchen items provided was ace, you seem to have thought of absolutely eveything -and everywhere was spotlessly clean - just fab!

Just a quick mail to say I received the damage deposit letter, and thanks.
Far Moor End was a wonderful place, much bigger than I had imagined it would be (we were all blown away by the enormous lounge and dining area!) and very well looked after. I will certainly recommend it if I know of anyone wanting to stay in the area.
Thanks,

"We have just (June 2011) enjoyed a fabulous week at Far Moor End.
'We' are a 16 strong group of family and friends ranging from 7 to 70 years young.
Everyone was delighted with the standard of accommodation which is in a stunning setting.
Far Moor End feels like you are a house guest in someone's home and not a holiday rental.
The accommodation was of the very highest standard (and, believe me, some of the group are very particular!) and spotlessly clean. It was furnished and equipped with everything you could possibly want or need.
A superb holiday home!"

"This has been a wonderful holiday and we have really enjoyed the house - thank you for stocking it so incredibly well, for how comfortable it is and all the clear instructions. We've especially enjoyed all the space inside and outside and walking around the grounds. Thank you for everything you do to keep this such a special place to visit. Kind regards"

"Fantastic accommodation, delightful position in the Lake District and the weather was fantastic - what more could we ask for."
May 2011
Extremely enjoyable stay in this fantastic accommodation - best equipped accommodation any of us have ever stayed in. Only thing we could think of as a suggestion - sometimes the TV signal was poor - no other faults.
