You will have EXCLUSIVE use of the estate, your party will NOT be sharing the grounds or buildings with anyone else during your stay. There is direct pedestrian access to the Fells.

In the LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK Far Moor End is a private country estate, idyllically secluded in 22 acres of private grounds, just a short stroll from the shores of Ennerdale Water and only a mile from the village of Ennerdale Bridge, with its two pubs.The extremely generous, spacious accommodation for 16 people, comprises the Farmhouse, with traditional farmhouse kitchen, complete with large 2-oven Aga Rangemaster and inter-linked Barn conversion. Plenty of room to celebrate or spacious enough to find your own nook and unwind.

FLEXIBILITY 7 of the 8 Bedrooms can be either Superking Doubles or Twins, offering great flexibility for all your requirements. 3 ground floor bedrooms. The dining room very comfortably seats 16 people and has an open fire. Relax in the beautiful vaulted sitting room which has plenty of comfortable seating and a large woodburning stove. Set up a competition on the two table football tables or full-sized table tennis table. With an abundance of space everyone in your party can find their own area if required.

Explore the 22 acre estate of Far Moor End , which includes 15 acres of woodlands with paths, two paddocks of approximately two acres each, a meadow of approximately three acres. There are three wildlife ponds within the grounds. Far Moor End has a long frontage on the River Ehen which is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC),here you may be lucky enough to spot an otter or two and the grounds surrounding Far Moor End attract an abundance of wildlife, including red squirrels.

The unspoilt, tranquil valley of "Wild Ennderdale "is an ideal starting point for hundreds of walks - from gentle lakeside strolls to energetic mountain hikes (the views of Ennerdale and Buttermere lakes from the high fells are a stunning reward); rock climbing (a good base from which to approach Pillar); mountain biking in Ennerdale forest and fishing (permit required); and pony trekking.

The market towns of Cockermouth and Whitehaven are only a short distance away and the popular town of Keswick is only half an hour's drive away.

The historic village of St Bees is also close at hand with its long pebble and sand beach and famous cliffs with thousands of nesting sea birds.

As recently visited by Julia Bradbury & Ellie Harrison for BBC's Countryfile, Ennerdale is England's wildest valleys. It is one of the most remote lakes, offering a place to escape even in the high season. Yet it is only a 20 minute drive from a variety of towns and areas. Ennerdale lake is a deep glacial lake, 2.5 miles long, ¾ mile wide and 148 feet deep. The water is exceptionally clear and contains a variety of fish. It is the only lake that does not have a road running alongside it.

It was the first attempt in England to turn a large landscape back into a wilderness. Follow Wild Ennerdale's progress on BBC's "Costing the Earth" - available on iplayer.

Around Ennerdale, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied.

"Far Moor End, far better than we imagined!"

From the moment we arrived to be greeted by Jan, the whole weekend was a pleasure. The house was immaculate and equipped with everything we needed. There was plenty of room for all 8 couples, and what more could a bloke want than 2 table football tables, a table tennis table and a large screen telly! The grounds are lovely, with ponds full of frogspawn and paddling ducks, and if we'd taken the kids with us, the woods were an idyllic place to play, ( and no neighbours to be annoyed by the noise!)
We would definitely visit again, and I highly recommend Far Moor End to anyone considering a weekend/week with a large group of family or friends.

"Ideal house in the perfect setting...Didn't want to leave!"

I booked Far Moor End for a surprise family gathering for my mum's 60th Birthday. Jan and Clare (the owners) were more than helpful dealing with my endless emails with questions about the house, and made extra arrangements to make the weekend even more special for us. The house is beautiful, and in a beautiful setting, and so so peaceful...I immediately felt relaxed and at home when I arrived. There was more than enough space for our family (12 adults, 2 young children, 2 babies and 3 dogs!), and the bedrooms are all beautiful. The beds are amazingly comfortable and you can choose how to have them set up (either kingsize or twin). I stayed in Ennerdale (one of the downstairs bedrooms), and I had an en suite bathroom, with the most amazing shower!

The lounge area with large wood burner is just the perfect setting for relaxing as a family, with plenty of space for everyone to sit (or dance or even play table tennis!). The kitchen has everything you could want, and more, to cater for a family weekend away, and we had plenty of crockery/cutlery/glasses etc. There are 2 dishwashers (which helps clearing up after using all the items in the kitchen!). The house was more than warm enough even without the wood burner on, and it was a cold weekend (max temp outside reached 7 degrees)

We were able to walk from the house down to Ennerdale Water in about 20mins, which is a beautiful setting for a gentle stroll or more energetic walk. The grounds of the house are great for exploring, and the dogs were in their element running around in the woods and the river.

Thanks to the owners help and advice we had the most amazing weekend and will definitely stay there again for our next family gathering! I can highly recommend Far More End, a must for a relaxing stay in the beautiful Lake District.

(and we had the most delicious lunch on the Sunday at the Shepherds Arms in the village, a nice 15-20 minute stroll from the house)

"A reet good time!"

The house was spotless and everything ready to be used. The house had everything we needed. The weather was awful - torrential rain and gales but we were fine! The owner Jan sorted every little niggle and was cheery even when we dragged him out through flooded roads! We would certainly go back. We have stayed in many big houses and this was the best!

"Far Moor End - Ennerdale absolutely fabulous"

This was a very special three night stay for all our family. The house and grounds are fantastic the amount of space is incredible. The accommodation was very well maintained and spotlessly clean. Sixteen of use came together for our celebration, Far Moor End made our time together a wonderful experience - one we will never forget. Thank you.

"Superb cottage for any group"

We stayed at Far Moor End for my brother's stag - a group of 14 of us. The place is brilliant!

Loads of car parking, rooms that be set up as doubles or twins (so can adjust to different groups), a huge living room, table tennis, table football, BBQ, decking with wonderful views over the fells, great kitchen facilities, a huge dining room, outside space, secluded....I could go on. Whatever the group I think this place will work....stags, hens, family, group of friends, etc.

We went to the Fox and Hounds - about a ten minute walk into Ennerdale, which is a good solid country pub. We also did the 7-8 mile walk around Ennerdale Water - just turn right out the end of the drive - which is a real cracker with some great views, especially from the southern shore.

All in all, a great cottage, I can highly recommend.

"Great location, lovely views, fantastic space and very comfortable"

We loved this house as a great venue for our family gathering of 16. the house coped with us all and a dog very easily no doubt helped by beautiful weather. We would definitely recommend it to others. The living space, dining room and comfortable beds mostly with en suite all exceeded expectations.

"Location, Location, Location!"

Amazing setting, totally private and exclusive outlooks. Central for all the different kind of walks and sightseeing you could ever want for the Lake District. Great for dogs and people who like dogs to have a bit of freedom without worrying to much about adjacent properties. Well presented on arrival, spotless clean and Jan and his team were very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend.

"Lovely remote cottage, perfect for large families/groups"

Me and my family have just spent 4 nights over Christmas at this cottage. It is in a remote location but this is it's main asset. If you're looking for somewhere quiet to spend quality time with the family, this is the place to go. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday, especially the AGA oven. The bedrooms are all tastefully decorated and the sitting rooms are very homely. There is ample space in the cottage for everyone. The grounds are beautiful with stunning views and lots of places to explore. None of the party where able to get a mobile signal but this did not bother us as there is free wi-fi provided. The only criticisms we have of the property was the state of the driveway, it had some large holes in places and one member of our party damaged the exhaust on their car. Both sitting rooms would also benefit from larger, more modern TV screens, as the sitting rooms are big enough to accommodate 16 people.

Since July 2012 a local contractor maintains the driveway and keeps it free of potholes so any vehicle can access the property without problem.

"Absolutely fantastic place to stay."

9 of us stayed at this cottage for a hen's weekend. Absolutely loved the "cottage" and the scenery is beautiful. Plenty of bathrooms for everyone, the beds were amazingly comfortable (everyone commented on this) and an easy walk into the tiny village of Ennerdale Bridge. Would highly recommend staying here as a central point for touring around or just to get away from everything.

"Fantastic place"

I stayed here with 8 female friends for a long weekend. The place is amazing! The website describes the property precisely, but even then the size of the rooms and the sheer size of the place was still a surprise. There was more than enough room for us, and more than enough space in the kitchens to prepare our meals. The rooms are huge, yet warm, and the location is great. The beds, duvet and pillows are so comfy. There are lots of different walks that can be taken directly from the property, and others are only a short drive away. The nearest pubs are a mile away along a country lane. We pre-arranged a grocery delivery (with Tesco) which came just after we arrived, and we booked caterers for the Saturday evening. This place is a little piece of heaven and even after one night I was so relaxed. I would recommend this property to anyone who likes to get away from it all. If the opportunity ever presents itself, I would return in a heartbeat.
