The Florida / Florida Gulf Coast region

The Florida / Florida Gulf Coast region
The Gulf Coast is widely considered to be the finest area of Florida and is a contrast to the hectic Orlando/Disney area. There is an abundance of uncrowded beautiful sandy beaches (as shown in photo's) lapped by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico to enjoy at any time of the year.
Popular local boating destinations include Boca Grande Pass and the Gulf of Mexico, Cayo Costa, Punta Gorda's Fisherman's village, the Intracoastal Waterway, Captiva, Sanibel Island, Englewood Beach and Venice Beach.
The "Out Islands" (Don Pedro, Palm, and Little Gasparilla) are a result of changing Gulf of Mexico currents back in the 1950's. When these currents filled in two passes an island was formed and two bridges were built to connect the island to the main land. In the early '60s the bridges were removed and this peaceful little area was forgotten for many years. Today, these pristine, residential islands remain unspoiled and enhanced by 7 miles of tropical, sandy white beaches. On Don Pedro, Palm, and Little Gasparilla, a leisurely pace is a must!
Wildlife abounds everywhere: Osprey, Pelicans, Ibis, Egrets, and Turkey Vultures are all common sights. On our last visit we saw a Bald Eagle at 10 feet! Alligators, Racoons, Armadillos and Turtles can also be seen. Dolphins can often be spotted swimming in the warm waters off the beaches.
Our Villa is also in the perfect location for exploring the outer surrounding areas. Tampa, Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Sarasota, Naples and Orlando are all within reachable distance, and this villa is located perfectly as a base should you wish to explore further areas of Florida.
The Englewood / Lake Marlin area
Lake Marlin is ideally situated in the South Gulf Cove and is close enough to area amenities, but secluded enough to call 'Your private piece of paradise'. It is a paradylic place where visitors are welcomed with open arms to enjoy the stunning beaches, abundance of water activities, large green parks and world famous fishing beats which surround Englewood, and has been the starting point for many excellent sailing holidays in the Gulf of Mexico.
The natural surroundings of Englewood, Florida are beautifully unspoilt. The town itself boasts some magnificent parks in which to relax, including Cedar Point, Don Pedrom Barrier Island and Kiwanis Park. But, it is the Myakka River State Park (just north of the villa) which is the most exciting. The park is a haven for wildlife which can be explored on foot, bicycle or via the waterways in a canoe.
The Floridian residents take great personal pride in ensuring the area is maintained beautifully. Amongst the tropical lush palm trees and beaches do you rarely even see a piece of litter!
Things To Do on holiday around Lake Marlin, Florida…...
Any guide to this wonderful area of the Sunshine State will start with the coast. There are exceptional views over the Gulf and many wonderful restaurants along this strip, specialising, unsurprisingly, in world-class seafood.
There are plenty of beaches to choose from. The fine white sands of the Gulf Coast are a beach lovers dream… perfect for lazy days basking in the sunshine. There are plenty of leisure activities along the beaches too. Fishing from the beach is particularly exciting from Blind Pass Beach, which is also the starting point for over 60 acres of nature trails. Manasota Beach is a highly sociable place to relax in the sun, as there are even BBQ pits, bathhouses and picnic areas.
While singles and couples may prefer the more remote beaches on the northern end, Englewood Beach is the preferred paradise for families. Hardly a day goes by that dolphins are not seen romping just offshore in the warm turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Other wildlife abounds too: loggerhead turtles have been known to nest here and the shore is alive with seabirds. All of the southwest coast of Florida, but Manasota Key in particular, offers exceptional shell collecting that rivals Sanibel Island, which is known the world over for its shells. On Englewood Beach it is not uncommon to find shells that have arrived on the beach intact, but are still inhabited and very much alive.
Further offshore from Englewood you will find many hours of fun! The sailing in the Gulf of Mexico is world famous, and there are plenty of fantastic spots to drop anchor, go for a swim and have lunch.
However, it is deep sea fishing which sees most mariners flock to Englewood. The deep sea fishing in the Gulf is known worldwide to be sensational, some of the best of which can be found in the Lemon Bay area. Chartered trips are easily arranged, and local information it readily available.
Prime fishing is also found in Stump Pass, and the Gulf of Mexico. Known for its abundance of redfish, grouper, and snook, this area is also known as the Tarpon Capital of the World!
Enjoy waterfront dining and sunset cruises from Englewood Beach or go shopping in Old Englewood adjoining lovely Lemon Bay.
River fishing, boating, water sports including jet-skiing, para-sailing and speedboat rentals are also easily available locally.
Why not try the exhilarating hydrofoil journey from Fort Myers to Key West ?
THEME PARKS……
Widely considered as the most thrill-seeking Theme Park of Florida, 'Busch Gardens' is about an hours drive away. Type it into a search engine and get excited!
GOLF…...
There are also some wonderful Golf Courses in the Englewood area. Within the town limits are no less than eight golf courses open to the public.
Duffy's Golf Course, a minute's drive away, is an 18-hole course at the Duffy's Golf Centre. It features 3,641 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 59, and offers late night floodlit gaming.
Long Marsh Golf Club, a short drive from the Villa is set in 300 acres of natural Florida scrub, pines, oaks and palms, lakes and marshes that are a haven for wildlife. Four sets of tees provide distances from 7120 yards to 5257 yards, a real test from the back.
Lemon Bay Golf Club with a par 71, 18 hole course offers a fair yet challenging game for both novice and expert golfer. It is located within a wildlife preserve along the beautiful waters of Lemon Bay and the natural Florida terrain provides an ideal habitat for native birds and animals.
Myakka Pines Golf Club, ( www.myakkapinesgolfclub.com ) has 27 holes that are divided into three distinctly different courses, Each 9 hole course has it's own characteristics. The courses are about 3100 yards for men, 2800 for women and 3350 from the back tees. The course is dotted with lakes and surrounded by Florida's natural fauna, with no developments of any kind to spoil the views.
There are over 70 courses between Tampa and Blueberry Lake.
WEATHER……
Englewood basks in bright sunshine all year round. Conditions in summer are ideal, with temperatures almost always reaching the high 30’s during the middle of the day, but never becoming unbearably hot. Even during the winter, daily conditions are glorious, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees regularly and lasting long into the evening.

Guestbook for Lake Marlin Luxury and Privacy
There is a book at the villa in which we encourage guests to leave their comments. These are very helpful as they provide a more personalised view of the attractions, restaurants and beaches in the area.
Many of our guests return each year and the following email is typical of the testimonials we receive:
Don,
Just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic time staying at your villa. It was a perfect base for exploring the gulf coast. The villa itself was excellent, it was a real home from home. Venice, Punta Gorda, Boca Grande and Manasota were all beautiful, they didn't disappoint. We loved them so much we didn't even venture out to Sarasota!
Mr Alligator showed up every day for the first week then mysteriously disappeared!
We took your advice and visited Farlow's, the steaks are fantastic.
I can honestly say it was our best ever holiday, we loved everything about the place and are seriously considering a return next year.
Once again, thanks for the use of your fantastic property.
Kindest regards
Peter, Monika & Rachel Puk

The property's weekend rates apply to: Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
NB: Prices may be subject to change at the advertiser's discretion.
All reservations are charged at the same fair rate throughout the year. I do not agree with the practice of charging extra for the more popular dates, after all, my overheads don't increase.
Everything is included in the rental price, Pool Heating, Taxes, Utilities, Cleaning (before & after), Internet, Cable tv, US phone calls etc.. There are absolutely no extra charges whatsoever.
Payment can be by Cheque, Credit/Debit Card or Bank Transfer in GB£, Euro's or US$.
Rentals can start on any day of the week and can be for any number of nights. Holidays longer than one week are charged at the equivalent weekly rate of £93 per night. For example 10 nights would cost £930.
Rentals of less than one week are charged at the nightly rate of £110 and there is a short stay surcharge of £50 per booking for rentals of four days or fewer.
A deposit is payable upon booking and is fully refundable if you wished to cancel (for any reason) and let me know no later than eight weeks prior to the reservation. If cancelling within eight weeks of commencement a refund will depend on whether I can re-let your dates.
Every effort would be made to achieve this, although please bear in mind the importance of ensuring you have travel insurance in place from when you book, not just for your holiday dates. This would cover you for most cancellation situations except, of course, disinclination to travel.
