The Hampshire region
This area enjoys some of the best levels of sunshine in the U.K. Emsworth is situated right on the west Sussex/Hampshire borders, two of the most beautiful counties in England. Stunning coastlines combined with rolling countryside make it a unique mixture and it has numerous historical connections.
The nearby naval city of Portsmouth is where The Victory ship is berthed and Chichester to the east has its famous Roman connections, examples of which are exhibited at the Fishbourne Roman Palace.
Situated at the top of Chichester Harbour, Emsworth is a stunningly beautiful market town popular with sailors, walkers, artists and tourists. To the west Chichester Harbour merges with Langstone Harbour and the walk around the coastline towards the pretty village of Langstone is particularly picturesque. Heading south from the property, Thorney Island projects out into this natural harbour and taking the coastal path around the island will afford some wonderful views.
Emsworth has two tidal mill ponds, one of which abuts Bath Road, which are host to a variety of wild life. It is full of history, with a long established reputation for oyster fishing and boat building and still boasts traditional shipwrights and chandeliers. The sailing club is a thriving centre for sailing enthusiasts and the pretty streets have a fascinating mixture of different architectural styles. A gentle walk around the village, which has superb harbour views, gives a genuine feel for the past. There are excellent road links to Portsmouth and Chichester (15 minute drive to both approximately) and there is also a mainline station to London.
There is an interesting selection of shops & restaurants in the town itself and there are numerous places of interest to visit in the area. These include Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, one of the largest vantage points in Europe, the internationally rernowned Chichester Festival Theatre at Chichester, polo at Cowdray near Midhurst and horse racing and motor sports at Goodwood. There are also annual festivals at Chichester, Brighton and Arundel. In addition to the sailing at Emsworth there is also a super sandy beach at West Wittering which attracts wind surfers and surfers, as well as sun bathers.
Chichester Festival Theatre - 20 mins
Fishbourne Roman Palace - 10 mins
West Wittering Beach - 30 mins
Hayling Island - 20 mins
Goodwood Racecourse & Motor Circuit - 30 mins - home of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Goodwood Revival, Glorious Goodwood and many more events throughout the year

"Unique deckhouse with great harbour views"
Spacious but cosy deckhouse, even in a cold windy week. With access through a marina full of interesting boats and yachts, it had great views across the harbour with the Portsmouth Spinnaker in the distance. All facilities in good order - a great place.
Thankyou for your kind words, I am very glad you enjoyed your stay in what is a unique location, and very much hope to be able to welcome you back again in the future.

"Interesting property with lovely views"
The setting of 10 Osprey Quay is lovely and the views to the front are wonderful, especially when you get a sunset over the water, which makes it very special.
It's a few minutes' walk into the lovely little town of Emsworth where there's everything you might need shop- and food-wise. There's also a train station about 20 minutes' walk from the deckhouse, which we utilised to go into Brighton for a great day out. (It's an hour's ride, but much easier than the roads which get quite congested). The location is absolutely perfect for exploring all of the surrounding area.
The deckhouses are rather unique and we loved the opportunity to stay somewhere a bit different. The accommodation is perfectly adequate. It's clean, very comfortable and is extremely well equipped. Inside, the décor is a bit tired in places… Some of the kitchen cupboards are a little tatty, there's rust on the metal shelving in bathroom, and there are a few scuffs here and there. It's nothing major; it could just do with a bit of a refresh throughout. With a few simple tweaks it could easily match the view from the windows.
(On a side note, the smoke alarm goes off every time you open the bathroom door after having a shower, so we had to take the battery out temporarily!)
Also, we felt that a few very simple additions would help to complete the visitor's stay at the property, such as:
* A welcome pack – it doesn't need to be much; just a few tea bags, coffee sachets, sugar, milk, biscuits, maybe a couple of pieces of fruit and a bottle of wine.
* A mirror near a plug socket would be most useful for drying one's hair – the ideal place would be in the main bedroom, above the heater as there's already a plug there. Or even an extension lead would suffice.
* Somewhere within the shower cubicle to stand shower gel, shampoo, etc.
Finally, we feel that a damage deposit of £250 is a bit high. We've stayed in lots of self-catering accommodation (even a 12 story medieval tower in Tuscany!) and we've never had to pay such a high damage deposit. That said, it was refunded the day after we returned, so all's well.
If you're looking for an interesting property that's well-equipped (and has a really comfy bed!), in a tranquil location, with a lovely view… then you won't go far wrong with 10 Osprey Quay.
Very many thanks for your review, I fully appreciate the time you have taken to give me some honest feedback.
In response I would make the following comments;
Décor is a bit tired in places
The deckhouse was decorated only last year and so is in pretty good condition, I agree the kitchen units are beginning to look a little tired, although they are fully functioning. We will continue to appraise the situation each season
Rust on the metal shelving in bathroom - this will be replaced shortly
The smoke alarm goes off every time you open the bathroom door - I have never had this happen and likewise never been made aware of this fact - I will certainly investigate!
A welcome pack – will look into providing
A mirror in the main bedroom - we will put one in
Shower cubicle tidy - again we will put one in
Damage deposit of £250 is a bit high - yours was one of my first bookings this year and since then I have reduced the deposit and consider reducing it further for short breaks for couples on an individual basis
Once again, I fully value your feedback, and am very glad you enjoyed your stay and would very much welcome you to visit again in the future, when I hope the changes we will make will enhance your stay

What a find! A wonderfully different place to stay in a super location. If you enjoy peace and quiet, walks from the door and a gorgeous view of the harbour, you'll love it here. On a sunny evening you won't want to move from the balcony. 10 Osprey Quay is surprisingly spacious, decorated to a high standard and very well equipped.
The deckhouses are situated in parkland next to Emsworth Yacht Harbour, with a cafe that serves tapas on a Friday evening. Emsworth town centre with its pubs, shops and restaurants is an easy 10 minute walk, reached through the Yacht Harbour.
Thankyou for your kind words - so glad you enjoyed your stay!!
