The Dubai region

From the timeless tranquility of the desert to the lively bustle of the souk, Dubai offers a kaleidoscope of attractions for visitors. The emirate embraces a wide variety of scenery in a very small area. In a single day, the tourist can experience everything from rugged mountains and awe-inspiring sand dunes to sandy beaches and lush green parks, from dusty villages to luxurious residential districts and from ancient houses with wind towers to ultra-modern shopping malls.

The emirate is both a dynamic international business centre and a laid-back tourist escape; a city where the sophistication of the 21st century walks hand in hand with the simplicity of a bygone era. But these contrasts give Dubai its unique flavour and personality; a cosmopolitan society with an international lifestyle, yet with a culture deeply rooted in the Islamic traditions of Arabia.

Since earliest times, Dubai has been a meeting place, bringing together the Bedouin of the desert interior with the pearl-diver, the merchant of the city with the sea-going fisherman.

Dubai is fast becoming one of the world 19s favourite and most exclusive tourist destinations and offers the very best in sports, entertainment, adventure and shopping. From enjoying a lazy day at one of the many 5 star beach clubs, where you will be waited on hand and foot to a round of golf at one of the 7 world-class golf courses, to enjoying the thrill of Dune Bashing in the desert you will find it all here.

If you visit Dubai during the Annual Shopping Festival you will not only be able to soak up a truly magnificent atmosphere which engulfs the entire city for a whole month, but you may even pick up bargain electrical goods, clothes and even win yourself a luxury car or apartment in the fantastic draws available at this time. Dubai certainly has that carnival feel during the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Dubai can guarantee you an all year round tan! The skies are blue and the temperatures range form 24C in January to as high as 45C in July. Rainfall is very irregular so no matter what time of year you plan to visit you can be sure the weather will not put a damper on your holiday.

Amongst all the glitz and glamour Dubai still has a traditional side. A visit to Dubai museum is a must for those interested in the growth of this captivating city. There are also many other places of interest providing a glimpse at life in Dubai before the discovery of oil.

Emirates Hills

Dubai is a shopper 19s paradise! There are numerous ultra modern shopping malls where you are sure to grab a bargain. Having low import duties and no taxation, you will find most major labels less expensive than their country of origin.

If it 19s the more traditional type of shopping you are looking for and are itching to use your bargaining skills then a trip to the Souk is a must. Whatever you are looking for from spices to gold you will find at the entertaining, atmospheric location. The city draws large numbers of 18 shopping tourists 19 from countries within the region and from as far afield as Eastern Europe, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent.

As an open port with low import duties, Dubai 19s retail prices are reasonable and the variety of products available is virtually unrivalled. Free of tax, many top brand-name products are cheaper in Dubai than in the countries of their origin. Whatever the visitor 19s tastes 14 be it couture from Paris or Milan, hi-tech electronics from Japan, or a piece of silver Bedouin jewellery 14 he or she will find it at the right price in Dubai.

In addition to the souk districts and shopping malls listed below, there are many top-class department stores and boutiques throughout the city.

Shopping Hours Normal Dubai hours are from 9.00am 131.00pm and 4.00 139.00pm or later. Some boutiques in the residential areas do not open until 9.30 or 10.00am. Shopping malls tend to open from 10.00am 1310.00pm.

Most supermarkets stay open until late at night seven days a week, while some remain open 24 hours. Shops close for prayers on Fridays from 11.30am 131.30pm. Shopping malls and most shops are open on Friday evenings until late.

Bargaining is part of the fun of shopping in Dubai. While boutiques, some electronics shops, department stores and supermarkets may operate on a fixed-price basis, most other outlets consider friendly negotiation as a way of life.

There 19s lots to do in Dubai : Swimming or relaxing by the poolside or by Dubai 19s miles of clean uncrowded sandy eaches. Superb watersports-sailing, fishing, windsurfing, water skiing, parascending, scuba diving and snorkeling. Golf in the Desert on championship standard grass courses-Emirates Golf Club, Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht club and Dubai Golf and Racing Club. Wide range of other sports, from squash and tennis to horse riding cycling, ice skating, shooting, archery and go-karting. Dubai is host to many major sporting events. The worlds richest horse race, ran at Nad al Sheba, is held every year where people come form all over the world to be part of this cosmopolitan event. Other events include the Dubai Desert Classic and the annual Tennis open, not to mention Offshore Powerboat racing and the Rugby 7 19s making Dubai the "sports capital of the Middle East".

"never stay here"

Where do I start. This was a special occasion our silver wedding anniversary.

Villa not ready on arrival. Black hairs in beds, wardrobes and on floors.
Master bed propped up with a bit of wood.. Cigarette burns in sofa and bed covers.
Sheets to small for the beds.
Walls all marked and floor tiles cracked. Two coat hangers in master bedroom. Asked for more but nothing happened. Patio furniture very worn.
Welcome pack which you had to buy consisted of small sugars, butter, and milk etc, similar to what you get on the aircraft.
I did contact the agents twice and eventually they got back offering me a discount on my next stay!!
