The Paphos region

Sunny Cyprus is the birthplace of beauty and love. Located in the South East of Europe, it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. Cyprus is worthily one of the most popular tourist destinations with sunny weather all year round, and with one of the oldest civilizations in the Mediterranean. Cyprus has 10,000 years of valuable ancient history, amazing natural beauty with rare flora and fauna, stunning coastline with golden sandy beaches, and clear blue waters. Cyprus has some of the finest holiday accommodation with fine restaurants, impeccable service, clubs and pubs. Everything for the discerning visitor: spas, golf, cruising, water sports, walking and cycling activities, horse riding, diving, sailing, fishing, organized excursions to archaeological sites. Wine tours, and even extreme sports. If you are looking to go ski-ing in the winter, the Troudos Mountains in Cyprus are just the place to be in the winter sun. The list is endless. Extending its long tradition of hospitality, Cyprus caters for the business sector and offers excellent facilities for meetings, conferences and incentives. For sports enthusiasts there are state-of-the-art sports training facilities, which are particularly popular to professional teams from abroad especially during the winter period. Cyprus main cities are Nicosia, Limasol, Larnaka and Paphos. Cyprus is a whole world condensed in a small area. A place that is sure to capture your heart.

Paphos, the capital of western Cyprus, has some serious historical sites, the vast fourth-century BC Tombs of the Kings, as well as a dramatic Byzantine castle and fine mosaics, it is also known as the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite. The population of 27,000 is swelled by a summer influx of beach-bound visitors. A beautiful old harbour awaits, while modern hotels and restaurants stretch along the promenade.

Emba

Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It was a center of the cult of Aphrodite and of pre-Hellenic fertility deities. Aphrodite's legendary birthplace was on this island, where her temple was erected by the Mycenaean's in the 12th century B.C. The remains of villas, palaces, theaters, fortresses and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and historic value.

The mosaics of Nea Paphos, among the most beautiful in the world, are extremely rare and rank among the best examples in the world. The architectural remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and rock-hewn peristyle tombs are of outstanding historical value as they are one of the keys of the understanding of ancient architecture.
