The Alentejo region

Elvas is a strongly fortified walled town just opposite Spanish Badajoz with a long history of battles. Black pork and red wine are just two of the culinary delights on offer. Film set villages nearby include Terena, Monsarraz, Vila Vicosa, Marvao and Borba. Elvas is a small town with steep cobbled streets. Outlying forts are interesting to explore. Olivenca (Spanish) just 16kms away has a magnificent Manueline Church, al lovely square that is very lively in the evenings as families come out to meet and greet. Elvas has evening summer entertainments in the main square. There is considerable Peninsular war history as Elvas/Badajoz were the key for Wellington to secure from the French.

"Tired, dated & overrun with pigeons"

To sum this house up, it looks like it was once a beautiful house in lovely grounds. The key issue is that 'it was once'. Now it is old, tired, and dated. The general cleanliness is poor, wi… More

This is the first year that we have run our Quinta as a holiday home. We admit that there were some teething problems and that the pigeons were a nuisance. When we received an email from Mr Wilson detailing a list of complaints I flew out to Portugal to check their validity. We have now made the balcony pigeon proof and addressed the other issues. However in Mr Wilson's email to me was the following sentence which he has omitted from his review:

'The bedrooms and bathrooms are very nice and in good condition with nice clean linen and towels.'

I would also add that the following two families, one from Belgium and one from England, loved the Quinta and have already rebooked for next year.
