The Shropshire region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
The village of Northwood nestles between the Shropshire market towns of Wem and Ellesmere and consists of a handful of houses and an excellent pub with adjoining restaurant. Historic Wem has provided a central point for local trade since Saxon times and its weekly market still holds this tradition attracting visitors from across the county. The town of Ellesmere, with its medieval streets littered with Georgian and Victorian houses and half-timbered buildings, is situated just 6 miles away, amidst an area known as Shropshire's Lakeland and offers an abundance of shops, pubs and fine restaurants. Take a boat trip across the magnificent glacial mere out onto the Llangollen canal or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Arboretum and Cremorne Gardens with its wonderful wildlife and scenic walks.

"Great for family holiday"
We had a great week at top house and were extremely lucky with the weather. There were 6 adults (3 couples), a 4 year old, an infant and a dog. There was plenty of space with 2 of the rooms unused. T… More

Great for a family get together. Facilities were good and the only criticism is the oven was too small for a large gathering, it needs to be larger and have more rings on the hob - a range would be … More

The holiday started out well and the house was nice but one morning we woke up to find three childrens tractors stolen from the enclosed garden that was only accessible by the homeowner or the cleaner/gardener/horse owner (all the same family)!
We were £300 out of pocket and our children were very very upset and couldn't understand why someone would steal their tractors. Children were aged 3, 5 & 6.
One day when returning from a day out, we found wee on the toilet seat lid that was not there when we left. The grass had been cut that day.
The homeowner did not care at all that all this had happened & wouldn't come over for a chat.
The police have been informed.
I would urge anyone to be very careful before staying in this house as the people that have access to the property, in my opinion are untrustworthy.

Thank you for your review. To the best of our knowledge there have been no other thefts reported from the property and the owner has provided assurance that all of the parties referred to are unrelated and entirely trustworthy. The owner was shocked to learn that a theft had occurred and has confirmed she would have been more than willing to come to the property to discuss this and any other matters if it had been possible for a mutually convenient time to be arranged. Top House consistently receives good feedback and the owner has stated she is more than willing to address any issues that arise during a holiday so that she can provide the best service possible for guests.
