The Rhineland-Palatinate region
The Moselle Valley has been associated with wine manufacturing from before the days of the Roman Empire. The wine village of Ellenz lies on the Moselweinstrasse roughly midway between Koblenz and Trier, which is Germany's oldest town.
The beautiful and historic town Cochem is about 9 Kilometres away and offers all the charm and amenities that the Moselle has to offer.
The valley enjoys the reputation of being one of the warmest destinations in Germany or indeed central Europe.
Throughout the year there are many events the most important and in our opinion and the most fun are the winefests in July/August/September that take place in all the villages along the Moselle, With the wine harvesting taking place usually End September /Early October
There are many activities to do in the area why not take a leisurely boat trip and even have lunch on board.
For those who prefer the more active pursuits why not hire a canoe, or walk the Bremmer Calmont (Europe's steepest vineyard) and many other trails
or perhaps just hire a bicycle and cycle along the Moselle.
Within easy reach you will find the world famous Nürburgring, home to the German Formula1 Grand Prix for 2015 which has all the excitement of the racing world
For the historians amongst us why not explore the many castle and ruins along the Moselle and the Rhine Valley
Zur Alten Weinkelter is only a short journey away from Reichsburg Castle (Cochem) & Burg Eltz
why not look at visiting the mosel during the quieter winter months, The Moselle Valley has a serenity, which offers outstanding beauty and peace and is an ideal location for walking holidays During late November / December there are some fabulous traditional German Christmas markets that are not to be missed more details are available on request
Ellenz is a traditional wine village a place to enjoy wonderful scenery, fantastic wine direct from the wine makers
A superb central location for a relaxing holiday
To Experience the German traditional wine making industry and traditional village life

"Very peaceful and relaxing."
We were made very welcome from the outset. Drying facilities were made available. We were invited to a wine-tasting in the cellar [none of the other guests came] and were helped with purchasing wine from the Winzer next door. [Perhaps he could be asked to check the quality of the German in the information provided in the folder?] We enjoyed the apartment and had no difficulty negotiating the stairs. I imagine not everyone would find it as easy. As we weren't interested in watching TV or investigating internet access, we cannot comment on these. We were able to enjoy the village and the surrounding area without using the car at all. We used the free transport ticket on one day, hired bikes on another and made a day river trip. We are seriously considering a similar holiday in future so that we can both enjoy things fully. If we didn't mind basing ourselves in the same area we would almost certainly book the same apartment.

"Beautiful place to stay in a traditional German house in the lovely Mosel Valley"
I stayed in this lovely German house in June with my fiancé. The room - Silvaner - was lovely, with a fully functioning kitchen and dining area, bathroom and obviously a bed. The bed was very comfortable, but was 2 singles next to each other and they were quite divided, which may be an issue for some couples. The apartment was very clean and comfortable and quite spacious. The house is gorgeous, and is approximately 500 years old! It has been renovated since then, but still holds its traditional charm. There is a little library with some wonderful English titles that can be read during your stay, and there is a lovely garden out the back complete with fruit trees. We didn't get to enjoy the wine cellar as there was a problem with the plumbing at the time, which was disappointing, so if you're hoping to enjoy this then ensure you contact the managers first to make sure it's in use. Ellenz itself is quite small but charming. There is a bike shop down the road where you can hire bikes from to ride along the river (it is a very bike and pedestrian friendly area). There are a couple of restaurants and a bakery in walking distance, but you will need a car to explore the Mosel valley area properly and make the most of it. The best restaurants and shops we found were in Cochem, which is a short drive away. We would highly recommend this house to stay for your holiday in the Mosel Valley. It is very cost effective, the room was lovely, and the owners are very friendly and helpful. A great place to stay!
