Home description
Traditional features combined with contemporary fittings make for a truly special cottage with outstanding views on the banks of the River Lossie. Just a quiet road separates the cottage from the bridge across the river to the fabulous East Beach. With a large living/dining area as well as a separate lounge, a king size double and a twin room, four people can easily feel at home here. We can also provide a cot or an extra camp bed for those with young families.
Lossiemouth is compact, but has the necessary shops, restaurants and pubs. It is ideal, not just for a beach, golfing or fishing holiday, but also for touring the Malt Whisky and Castle trails, as well as longer day trips to places such as the Cairngorms National Park or Loch Ness. We invite you to take a break with us – you can be assured of a warm welcome at any time of year!

The Highlands region
The Scottish Highlands were popularised as a tourist destination when Queen Victoria bought Balmoral Castle in 1848. It is easy to understand why, with the wide open spaces, the 'big' sky, rugged mountains and tranquil glens. Home to many of Scotland's most famous whiskies and the Cairngorms National Park, there are many opportunitiesfor outdoor pursuits, including walking, fishing and mountainbiking. There are also plenty of award winning golf courses to enjoy. The coastline is also stunning, with its mix of cliffs and coves and wide beaches with the whitest of sands. Whether you want to take advantage of the many activities on offer or relax and unwind, the Highlands will have something for you!
Elgin / Speyside area
Lossiemouth can be found on the Moray coast some five miles north of Elgin. The town owes its existence to Elgin’s need for a port after the entrance to Loch Spynie became blocked by sand in the 1500's.
Around Lossiemouth There are a number of nice walks from the cottage, along the beach of course, but also along the river and through the woods. Ospreys are frequently seen fishing near the mouth of the Lossie. Or perhaps a walk along the Esplanade to the harbour and marina, maybe stopping at one of the pubs or the Harbour tearooms for refreshments. A walk along the Esplanade probably wouldn’t be complete without a locally made ice cream! At the marina, why not book a boat trip to have a chance of a close encounter with some of the Moray Firth’s resident bottlenosed dolphins and other wildlife? For evening entertainment, there is live music at The Steamboat Inn on a Friday night or checkout what’s on at The Warehouse Theatre. If you have children with you, take them to explore the ruins of nearby Duffus castle, or on a wet day there’s plenty to keep them entertained swimming or skating at The Moray Leisure Centre in Elgin.
For the practical side of things, Lossiemouth has a small supermarket, a greengrocers, a couple of butchers and a bakery. Otherwise there are 24 hour Tesco’s and Asda’s just 6 miles away in Elgin. However, if you want a total break, you can eat out at a number of fine restaurants or pick up a takeaway!
Whisky Around half the distilleries in Scotland are found in Speyside, just on our doorstep. In fact, this area has the highest concentration of distilleries anywhere in the world. Many of them including such famous names as Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet, The Macallan and Glen Moray welcome visitors.
What else to do? Here is a selection of the many other things that may be of interest (full details available at the cottage): • Visit the ruins of Elgin Cathedral ‘Lantern of the North’, once second in importance only to the cathedral at St Andrew’s • Get an insight into Scottish history with a local perspective at Elgin Museum, one of the oldest in the country • See the collection of vintage cars and motor cycles at Moray Motor Museum • Explore the ruins of Duffus Castle, with its old motte and bailey. Also incidently a great vantage point if the fighter jets are taking off from RAF Lossiemouth • Visit The Loft Live Music, Bistro and Outdoor Activities • Go Horse Riding • Baxters Highland Village for some shopping, a bowl of their famous soup, and a pancake with ice cream and toffee sauce….. • Visit the only mill in Scotland to transform fibre to finished product at Johnstons Cashmere Visitor Centre and Shop (also good for homebakes!!) • The kids would love the WDCS Wildlife Centre at Spey Bay • Play golf at the Championship Course at Moray Golf Club, Lossie, or Elgin Golf Club or one of the other numerous links or inland courses around the area.
How to get there
With an increasing number of cheap airlinks to Scotland, Seatown Cottage is easily accessible from anywhere in the world.
It is about 50 miles from Inverness and about 75 miles from Aberdeen airports. Car hire is readily available at both airports, with Avis, Hertz and 1car1 being amongst those dealers represented.
From either Inverness or Aberdeen, follow the main A96 in to Elgin. From the South follow the A96 to Aviemore, then the A95 down the Spey Valley then North via Rothes on the A941. At the Halfords roundabout in Elgin, take the A941 towards Lossiemouth. Passing the Buccaneer petrol station and fighter jet, follow this road for about 6 miles.
In Lossie take the 5th right, signed to the East Beach car park and caravan park. Carry on past the pedestrian bridge to the beach, and Seatown Cottage is on your right.
