The Scottish Highlands region

Scotland is known for its beauty, but few places are as undiscovered as Moray in the north east of Scotland. Today, Moray is a holiday destination with a difference. No shortage of outdoor pursuits, historical trails, good food and entertainment all makes this county one of Scotland's best - kept secrets.

Moray's glens hold centuries of history. There's more distilleries here than any other part of Scotland. No wonder this is called the whisky county.

Elgin

Elgin is the county town of Moray and is famous for its cathedral. Closeby is the Moray firth where you can watch the dolphins.

1 hours drive away is Aviemore, situated in the Cairngorm National Park.

"NOT 4 stars!"

Well, the 'Kestrel' log cabin has 4 stars from the Scottish tourism board..... But how?!?! It's full of bugs, filthy walls, you need to feed the meter pound coins to keep the electric o… More

Thank you for taking the time to post you most recent review, allowing me to respond to your comments. I'm sure you will appreciate that these have taken me completely by surprise, being that we had a chat during your stay and there was no mention of the issues then, or when you said goodbye on your departure.
Since being registered with Visitscotland since 2004 I have held and maintained 4 stars for the kestrel cabin. This involves a different Quality and Tourist advisor assessing the cabin annually. To achieve an award of 4 stars the score for "cleanliness" must be at least 80%. ( You may wish to view Visitscotland's grading criteria online.)
At no point has the cabin ever been advertised as having wifi, telephone, dishwasher or widescreen TV nor does it say electricity is included. Fifteen £1 coins were in the meter on your departure which averaged £2.14 per day for a family of 4 for heating, lighting, cooking and hot tub.
The BBQ was indeed missing - it had been removed for cleaning and, by mistake, had not been returned to the cabin. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this oversight and as mentioned on arrival, I am always available to deal with any problem such as this.
The interior walls are constructed of 150mm solid timber which provides more sound proofing than any conventional modern hollow construction i.e 95mm timber partition and cladding with 2 sheets 12mm plasterboard.
