El Cortijo enjoys a light and airy open-plan design, with the region's natural heritage reflected in the use of wood fittings, an attractive fireplace, vaulted beamed ceiling and traditional, rustic furnishings. The call of open-air living is irresistible in this idyllic climate, so the living-dining room opens onto a covered terrace, stone-built barbecue and inviting gated pool.
El Palmar hosts a small selection of bars and restaurants, and for a wider choice of eateries and essential shopping the popular coastal town of Conil is close by with its own gently shelving beaches and coves - ideal for a short excursion.
El Cortijo is equally well placed for exploring the cultural jewels of western Andalucia; Cadiz, the oldest city in Spain; the sherry bodegas of Jerez; enchanting Seville and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudio at Bolonia whilst closer to home one can sample the many delights of the white-washed, Moorish town of Vejer de la Frontera.
For those wishing to venture further afield and add a dynamic and cultural ingredient to their holiday, you can continue your Moorish journey and set off from nearby Tarifa to Morocco and experience an exotically different way of life!

About this location
The Andalucia region
Andalucía, all the signature images of Spain – flamenco dancers and torreadors, fiestas and sherry, Don Juan and Carmen – are linked with this huge southern province.
It embraces both the magnificent snow-capped Sierra Nevada and a sun-baked coast that claims, with justification, to have some of the best beaches in Europe; particularly the glorious swathes of golden sand on the Costa de la Luz, the aptly-names 'Coast of Light'.
El Palmar – is arguably the best beach in the area and is also known locally as Vejer Costa. Popular with wave-surfers in the winter and kite-surfers in the summer, El Palmar has seven kilometres of golden-sand for those wishing to do little more than relax, read, eat, drink and doze. The string of houses, shops, bars and restaurants which have grown up behind the beach, combine to create a wonderfully, unsophisticated ‘village’ which attracts an incredibly loyal following. After an exhausting day of doing nothing, retire to Restaurante La Chanka for a sundowner and a superb fresh-fish supper.
Vejer de la Frontera – one of the prettiest towns in the whole of Spain, gleams like Persil-white, sugar cubes or a ridge 200m above sea level. Cosmopolitan and yet steeped in tradition, it is easy to understand why bustling Vejer is the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of the pueblos blancos in western Andalucía. Artisans peddle their wears to the wealth of visitors, whilst the restaurants vie for business with their mouth-watering menus and innovative locations - like La Castilleria in the nearby, verdant oasis of Santa Lucia.
Conil de la Frontera – a characterful fishing port town with half a dozen great beaches. The majority of the Tuna caught here is shipped to Japan, where it is considered a highly prized delicacy. Conil throbs in July and August with mainly Spanish and a splattering of northern Europeans, enjoying the age old traditions of a typical beach holiday i.e. sea air, sandy beaches, the freshest of fish and a glass of something chilled.

"I could not ask for more"
Stayed for 8 days in this wonderful house it could not be beaten for comfort , cleanlyness and surroundings. It stood in its own grounds with secure gates so that when some children visited us at the weekend they were able to run around safely and use the beautifull swimming pool.
When we wanted a change which was not very often, it was a short walk up to El Palmar beach which has to be seen, fantastic.
Definately another trip to El Cortijo, but longer this time.

"Fantastic quiet base"
An excellent property about 800 metres from the stunning beach at El Palmar. You need a car to get anywhere but if you are looking for a book reading, chill out with access to one of the best beaches in Europe, this is the place. There are a couple of decent restaurants and a wee shop / chemist just about in short walking distance, the nice town of Conil is five minutes away. Great place to be.
