Home description
Our townhouse is in a small, gated, off-road development of 12 properties sharing a pool. A very short walk to the beautiful sandy beach at El Mojon, which lies on the border of the Costas Blanca and Calida, close to the Mar Menor, a sea water lagoon famed for its healing properties and bird life.
The surrounding area is very quiet, with some local bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, and has a very Spanish feel to it. Within a short drive you will find many activities - sailing, tennis, horse riding, mountain biking, jet skiing, windsurfing, water parks etc. 3 excellent golf courses - Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Villa Martin - are within 20 minutes drive and the famous La Manga course is half an hour away.
We are around 30 mins from the ancient city of Cartagena, with its Roman amphitheatre, while Murcia City is a similar distance inland

The Costa Calida/Murcia region
The Costa Cálida, just below the Costa Blanca, adjoins two different seas, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, and has warm weather all year round. The Mar Menor is a sea water lagoon formed by the La Manga strip and the Costa Calida coast.
The water temperature reaches 30°C in the summer - warmer than the Mediterranean and the area is famous for its therapeutic mud, popular with the Spanish for soothing various joint ailments and skin conditions. The nearby nature reserve at the salt lakes is home to flamingos, herons, eagles, owls, storks, terns, plovers and avocets.
The region of Murcia is varied and offers visitors historic towns, including Murcia City and Cartagena, splendid mountains, national parks and some beautiful coastline. Alicante is a popular holiday destination and the city itself has an impressive castle and other interesting architecture.
The area is very popular with golfers and has a host of excellent golf courses suitable for all standards.
The house is ideally placed for your holiday, whatever your interests. To the south, the nearby town of San Pedro del Pinatar is very Spanish and you will find a daily market in one of the local towns. Northwards, into the Costa Blanca, the holiday resort of Torrevieja and its surrounds offer many activities.
El Mojon, Costa Calida area
Locally, you will find numerous activities including tennis, horse riding, rambling, golf, mountain biking and many watersports, including jet skiing, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, boat trips etc, both on the Mar Menor, where the water is calmer, and the Mediterranean itself.
The beach at El Mojon, which is just two minutes walk from the house, has been awarded a blue flag, guaranteeing that it is safe and clean with good water quality and facilities. A short stroll further on brings you to a children's play area and beach bar, with static inflatables in the water at peak season.
There are a number of local bars and restaurants within five minutes walk, including the excellent Mediterraneo, a busy Spanish fish restaurant , and Diamantes, an English-run restaurant offering both English and Spanish food, as well as a takeaway pizza service. A supermarket and pharmacy are within five minutes drive.
Take a wander along the board walk to nearby Torre de la Horadada, which has restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours overlooking the harbour and town square.
If you want to explore the countryside on two wheels, bikes can be hired from the Costa Blanca bike shop in Torrevieja. The nearby towns of Pilar de la Horada, San Pedro del Pinatar and Lo Pagan have a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants. For a break from the sun, the cinema at Pilar shows English language films at the weekend and the shopping complex at Dos Mares has a bowling alley.
The house is within a twenty minute drive of three excellent golf courses - Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Villa Martin – and the famous La Manga Golf and Country Club is only half an hour away. For further details on each course, go to www.golfcostablanca.biz
Fifteen minutes up the coast is Torrevieja, a very popular tourist destination with plenty to keep boredom at bay, including go-karting, banana boating, scuba diving, boat trips, 4-wheel drive safaris, street markets, funfair's and Aquapolis, one of the largest water parks on the Costa Blanca, open from early June to mid September.
Inland, on the outskirts of Murcia City, you will find Terra Natura, a wildlife park, which is open all year round, and Aqua Natura, a water park open from the beginning of June to the end of September. Further north, towards Alicante, there is a safari park at Santa Pola and, about an hour’s drive away at Benidorm, you will find the Aqualandia water park, Mundo Mar sea life park and Spain’s biggest theme park – Terra Mitica.
The ancient city of Cartagena, with its Roman amphitheatre and wide selection of modern shops, bars and restaurants, lies about 30 minutes south, while Murcia City, capital of the province, with its fine Baroque Cathedral, University and wonderful architecture is a similar distance to the east.
The coves, beaches and fossilized dunes of Calblanque National Park are 40 minutes south, whilst the mountains of Sierra de Espuna lie an hour’s drive east.
