Ocean Gem is located just two minutes walk from the New Harbour (Puerto Nuevo), quiet and peaceful yet only few yards from major bars,restaurants and other amenities. The beaches to the South of the New Harbour are at 5-10 mins. walk whereas the beaches to the north, the famous Lagoons, are at 10-15 mins. walk . The time for reaching the beaches can be greatly reduced by using the bicycles available in the apartment.
The dining/living room is spacious and luminous, the dining table can accommodate 4 people, the reading/ relaxing corner of the lounge is made of a settee and a wooden coffee table. Leading from the lounge is a spacious patio with sea views, it is furnished with table and chairs to enable you to dine al fresco and sunbeds for sunbathing.
The bedroom includes a double bed therefore is ideal for couples, it has a fitted wardrobe, chest of drawers and mirror.
Our apartment is provided with all one would desire for a real laidback holiday in the sun. It is a real gem and it has all you need to create a home from home.

The patio facing the south is the ideal place to sunbathe. It is provided with two sunbeds. On the patio one can enjoy a BBQ anytime during the day. The shared roof top of the house is accessible from the building external stairs, here one can take pictures and watch the fantastic sunsets.
The apartment is managed by Karen, property manager, she lives in El Cotillo and can always be contactable and therefore provide information and advise regarding the apartment and life on the Island. Karen and Terry manage the Puerto Nuevo Restaurant and Tapas Bar which is very handy for meals and drinks in a very friendly atmosphere.
Warning for SMOKERS, as the owners are not smokers please smoke outside, on the patio.
The Fuerteventura region
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary islands, but the least developed. Situated on the same latitude as Florida and Mexico and only 100 kms. from the coast of Morocco, it basks in 3,000 hours of sunshine per year.
Fuerteventura has the best beaches of all the Canary Islands, 150 in total, and unlike the other islands most of the beaches are of fine sands, many are wild and unexplored. Indeed the beaches here are considered to be among the best in the world.
The island is a mecca for water sport enthusiasts, windsurfers, surfers and kitesurfers. The world windsurf championship is held here every year. Air temperatures in Fuerteventura range from 21 °C. (January) to 29°C. (August), seawater temperature ranges from 20°C. (January) to 26°C (August).
The El Cotillo area
El Cotillo is a small fishing village at the northern end of Fuerteventura , on the west coast. The village is centred around the small New Harbour (Puerto Nuevo) that is mostly used by local fishermen.
Our apartment is located in this area and this is the very "heart" of the village where one can find quiet bars and restaurants, but not discoteques. The New Harbour is from where the local fishermen set sail and land their catches, whereas the
Old Harbour which is only a short walk to the north over the headland that separates the two, is still the centre of many village activities such as the local fiestas in August.
The Toston Tower is the historical spot of El Cotillo, built as a defence against pirates is now a tourist information centre and it is located on the rock next to New Harbour.
There are miles of beaches to the south of the village, here naturism is accepted and tolerated everywhere, the beaches are excellent, wild and unequipped and even on a busy day they are too big to be overcrowded. The beaches that lie here are la playa del Castillo, la playa del Aljibe de la Cueva, la playa del Aguila and the magnificent playa de Esquinzo, all this marine area is knon as the Surfer's Paradise.
To the north of the village there is an array of breathtaking lagoons (Los Lagos), protected white sandy beaches having a gentle sloping seabed suitable for those less familiar with sea waves. These beaches are great for snorkelling, fishing, swimming or just sunbathing. "La Concha" beach is by far the biggest and best lagoon as its waters have a magnificent bleu/turquoise colour like any Caribbean beach.
El Cotillo is the ideal destination for those seeking a laidback holiday and to unwind in the peace and quiet of the marine nature. There is a certain ralaxed style about the village whose small population come from a wide range of nationalities, mainly people wanting to take things much easier than they did in their homeland

The apartment is very comfortable in a lovely apartment block within walking distance of excellent restaurants, bars, and beaches., We used a beach that was about 5 minutes away, the sea was calmer and better for swimming.
Do take time to walk around the town, find the bakery you will glad you did.! There is also a well stocked supermarket if you decide to cook in the well equipped kitchen. Eating in an evening on the patio with a nice bottle of wine ..... such a good memory.
Don't come to El Cotillo for bright lights, night clubs, quiz nights you won't find them, its relaxing, friendly and laid back.
I will be booking again for 2013

A really great place to stay close to shops, restaurants and some wonderful beaches. We will be returning in the very near future. The apartment has everything you need and Le Cotillo is such a relaxing place to stay.

Having just returned from 2 weeks in cotillo staying at Ocean Gem, we,ve already booked for next year. The apartment is in the perfect location close to everything from shops, beaches, resturants. Try " el rustica " or italian "Soteventa " to name a couple. If a quite laid back holiday is your choice, then this lovely well equiped apartment is ideal.
