The Fuerteventura region
El Cotillo is located in the tranquil North West corner of Fuerteventura, the second largest island of the Canary Islands. The island's rugged beauty is complemented with white sand beaches and stunning sea views including glorious sunsets from the Western shores. The area receives over 3000 hours of sunshine each year and the daytime temperature rarely dips below 15 degrees with the lowest monthly average temperature of 21degrees.
Both the airport and the principal town of Puerto de Rosario are on the eastern seaboard about 45 kms away.
El Cotillo is a quiet traditional fishing village which has avoided the commercialism of many other alternative destinations.
Seafood is a speciality in most restaurants with fresh fish from the local small harbour arriving daily. Among the best is El Roque de los Pescadores beside the new harbour in El Cotillo. Reasonably priced, first class service and excellent local cuisine.
El Cotillo has a unique village character which the local inhabitants do not want to lose.
If you are looking for a quiet, high quality destination with great people, fabulous food and almost guaranteed sunshine throughout the year then El Cotillo is worth consideration.
El Cotillo area
Both El Cotillo's main beaches are about 5 min. walk or 2 mins. by car from the apartment. The beaches to the North are very special with pristine white sands protected by volcanic rocky outcrops resulting in calm, safe, turquoise waters.
Playa de la Concha is possibly the best beach of the group close to the village and probably also has the best beach bar on the island, Bar Torino. The excellent Azzurro restaurant with an Italian flavour and 'home of the long, lazy lunch', is just 50 mtrs from the beach.
Sunbathing/reading, swimming and snorkelling are the most popular pastimes. The warm breeze (and frequently stronger) keeps irritant insects at bay.
Further North the beaches become even more secluded around the lighthouse (El Faro) area. The new fishing museum within the lighthouse is well worth a visit. It gives a very graphic impression of El Cotillo before tourism arrived. Recommended.
The Playa del Castillo surf beach immediately to the South of El Cotillo is much longer (2km) and wilder. Every conceivable watersport takes place here at some time or other. Frequently surfers, body boarders, body surfers, skimmers, wind surfers and kite surfers all appear at the surf beach. Forgetting about the watersports, it's also a great walk from the village to the end of the beach.
Further South is the deserted Playa de Ezquinzo, another surf beach.
Locally, the El Toston fort overlooking Playa del Castillo offers spectacular views of the area and doubles as a small local art centre.
Surfing, scuba diving, wind surfing, kite surfing, quad bikes, trekking expeditions etc. and instruction can all be booked from outlets in Corralejo. There are now three golf courses on Fuerteventura, all within a 30 min. drive of El Cotillo. One is of Championship standard.
Bicycles and body boards etc. can be hired in El Cotillo.
The village has two banks with cash points, a couple of good small supermarkets ( the largest and newest is just at the entrance to the village), and an excellent French bakery, El Goloso. Mobile phone reception is good, if you absolutely have to remain contactable! There is also a very good internet cafe (locuturio) on Avenida los Lagos.

How to get there
El Cotillo is situated in the North West of the island, just 30minutes away from the Airport (45kms) and the principal town of Puerto del Rosario both on the eastern seaboard, but far away from the noise and bustle. No low flying aircraft. The main roads are excellent.
Detailed directions to the apartment will be forwarded. El Cotillo is not a big place!
A 'meet and greet' transport service is available from the airport if required at 40 euro each way payable locally. Please enquire for more details.
Taxi service from the airport approx. 45 euro each way.
Car hire is both cheap, with many options and generally recommended particularly if considering touring. Autoreisen.com, holidayautos.com, doyouspain.com, cicar.com are some of the more popular car rental companies and all operating from the airport.

Further details indoors: Our newly furnished and upgraded apartment is equipped to a very high specification. The open plan format is ideal for up to four people.
Leather sofas complement the recent internal redecoration throughout with variable lighting, coffee table and new soft furnishings. A spacious dining area with 4 seats is adjacent to a fully equipped 'all electric' kitchen area with marble worktops, very large fridgefreezer, ceramic hob, full sized cooker, microwave, toaster, toasted sandwich maker, coffee maker, extractor fan and kettle.
Satellite TV (offering BBC World, Travel etc. but not Sky), DVD and high quality music system are provided also a selection of DVDs, books and games.
Room fans installed throughout.
The 2 bedrooms include one double bed and two singles. Both bedrooms have large fitted wardrobes, bedside cabinets, mirrors and additional generous bedroom furniture storage. Access to the rear balcony is through the principal bedroom.
Bedlinen is changed weekly and bathroom towels twice weekly.
Access to the apartment is secure with an entryphone system also installed. A digital safe is available for peace of mind.
Access to the front South balcony and the roof terrace is through French doors from the lounge area.
The bathroom has also been upgraded consistent with the quality of the apartment. The fully fitted bathroom is complete with high quality shower unit and screen, bath, bidet, washhand basin with vanity unit and w.c. A fully automatic washing machine is also located in the bathroom.
Basic medical kit, fire blanket and iron/ironing board are provided.
Our property management team are also available if you require further assistance while staying in El Cotillo.
Further details outdoors: The private roof terrace of around 800 square feet is accessed directly from the apartment. The roof terrace is not overlooked by other buildings and is located at the upper end of the small development which ensures excellent views and enhanced privacy.
Patio furniture by 'Grosflex' includes 4 sun loungers with comfortable covers, generous sized dining table, parasols, sub-tropical plants and 4 comfortable chairs. The rooftop shower can be very welcome! A power supply is also available. The robust Spanish masonry barbecue located on the roof terrace is an excellent feature and performs very well.
There is an additional smaller dining table and 4 chairs located on the front first floor balcony.
The panoramic views from the roof terrace include the surrounding hills at sunrise, sea views all day and uninterrupted spectacular sunsets in the evening. After dark the clear night sky is stunning.
The south facing aspect enhances the opportunity for al fresco dining either on the front balcony which will comfortably accommodate four people offering excellent views over the surrounding countryside. An additional larger table and four chairs are located on the roof terrace.
A further balcony to the rear of the apartment is used as a utility area.
A cool bag and simple children's beach toys are provided. Bicycles can be hired locally if required.
