The Canary Islands region

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands. It is also the least populated, providing us with the peace and tranquillity that we often crave in life. It is said that the Canary Islands each have something special to offer – Fuerteventura, without doubt, boasts the best beaches. Mile after mile of completely natural white sands accompanied by the blues and turquoises of the Atlantic Ocean. The island relies on tourism, agriculture and fishing, therefore the villages are sleepy farming villages or coastal, where evidence of the fishing and tourist industries effortlessly blend. You can explore by car very easily as the roads are very well planned and signposted. For the more adventurous, there are cycling, quad and walking tracks. For sea lovers boat trips, diving and snorkelling are all readily available.

Fuerteventura’s gentle climate makes this a perfect all year round holiday destination that is well worth the visit.

El Cotillo

This original fishing village can be found over on the north west coast of Fuerteventura. It is a wonderful example of the island’s ability to weave the old customs and traditions with the new expectations of today’s visitor. It boasts two fishing ports. The original port is home to the local fiestas which take place in October. The port becomes a sea of colour when the local people take to the streets to dance and sing.

The modern port is very close to the historic tower of Toston. This was a look out point in the 1700’s when it would be pirate ships that would be seen on the horizon. Today it is the home to an art exhibition from one of the local artists.

Cotillo is renowned for it’s breathtaking beach views and it's magical sunsets it is also a

very good base from which to explore the island. It is only fifteen minutes drive to La Oliva, twenty five minutes to Puerto de Rosario and twenty minutes to Corralejo. The golf course and the airport are around thirty five minutes by car. For the more adventurous, there is diving, snorkelling and windsurfing all close by.

"excellent accommodation in ideal location"

Apartment located on the beach at El Cotillo and is the ideal location for quiet peaceful holiday. Apt very well equipped and beach towels are included. Michelle's dad met us at the entrance to the town and brought us to the apartment, which was great as we arrived at 10.30pm. The view out over the beach and lagoons is wonderful. Two lovely pools and entire area was spotless.
