BookThe Costa Calida region
The Costa Calida (hot coast) has a 250km stretch of coastline bordering the province of Murcia from Pilar de la Horadada to Mazzaron. It is home to the world famous La Manga Club which boasts some of the top sports and leisure facilities to be found in any self contained tourist complex in Europe. The Costa Calida also cradles one of Spain's greatest coastal treasures - a huge natural salt water lagoon called 'The Mar Menor' (little sea). The unique Mar Menor is a magnet for wildlife, water sports enthusiasts and an army of devotees who swear by the healing powers of its thermal waters and minerals. The Mar Menor is peppered by traditional Spanish villages which have been untouched by tourism. Few regions have the good fortune to have both a saltwater lake and a Mediterranean shore. The region of Murcia has both and the salt water lake with an area of 170sq.km is known as Mar Menor, the largest salt water lake in Europe . The Mar Menor works in winter as a type of large heating basin and in the summer the water of the Mar Menor gives desired cooling, as a result of which it is in the winter by day between 17 and the 22 degrees and in the summer months it becomes between 28 and the 32 degrees. The winters are very mild, seldom the temperature is under 10ºC and summer is for Spanish terms delicious and seldom warmer then 36 degrees. With over 3000 hours of sunshine a year and the mild climate, the water here can reach 30º in August. The coast of the Mar Menor is flanked by villages, small towns, in the past homes to fishermen and today, tourist enclaves. San Pedro del Pinatar in the north covers 21.7sq.km and has 15,200 inhabitants. This can swell to 60,000 in the summer months. Below this is San Javier with over 20,000 residents. Further to the south there are several nice villages. The Costa Calida is served by the airports of Alicante and San Javier (Murcia).
The El Carmoli area
El Carmoli, in the heart of Mar Menor, is a residential area where the customs and traditions of the fishermen who inhabited this village, are preserved, yet there is a full range of services close by. There is a wide range of restaurants (Indian, Italian, English) and excellent nightlife in the neighbouring town of Los Alcazares, just four miles away (5 -7 min drive). The location also offers a wide array of choice for leisure activities. Within ten minutes of El Carmoli, golf fans can play on any greens at the La Manga Golf Club. The Club has 3 golf courses, pools, shops, restaurants and hotels, and it is visited by several European football league teams for training sessions as well as relaxing breaks. Enjoy the natural beauty of the Carmolí Marina Nature Reserve. A protected area positioned very close to the residential environment, a place to take in fresh air and relax. In Mar Menor’s neighbouring area you can find Los Urrutias, Los Nietos, La Manga and Cabo de Palos, with a full range of services: restaurants, cinemas, schools, traditional markets and shopping centres. Only a few kilometres away from the modern and cosmopolitan cities of Murcia and Cartagena, the two main cities in the Region.

This was my first trip to Spain after close family friends had recommended this area, El-Carmoli. It was very quiet when I first arrived with my girlfriends, but just what I needed, away from the hustle and bustle. The property was very clean, well maintained, spacious to allow everyone their own space. Two bathrooms, very important!! and reasonably priced!!! The views, the sea, blue skies was amazing, so serene to wake up to. I would recommend this to all my family and friends :) Response: Thanks Miss Kaur. So happy you had a good holiday. |

Sea View House was just what we wanted for our break with a young family. It has a great kitchen/diner with views of the mountain from the back window, and there's a paved garden in front that's perfect for sunbathing and lounging. The sea is an easy eight-minute stroll away. The house has been well maintained and had everything we needed to make our holiday stress-free. There's a local bar where you can get excellent snacks and meals while the kids play table football. All in all, a great rental property in an area that still feels Spanish. Response: Thanks so much Terri. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay - you were the perfect guest and are welcome to stay any time you choose! |
