Alicante: Sun, Sand, and Sea!

The city of Alicante has been a favourite destination for sun lovers for over a century, and its beautiful golden sandy beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag of the European Union year after year; proof of their cleanliness and quality.

The terraces along the Explanada de España are the perfect place to meet for a drink or a chat or simply to take a break from sightseeing. Here you will find restaurants, cafés, bars, taverns, chocolaterias and ice-cream parlours.

Behind the Explanada is a nightlife area called 'la zona' where cafés, pubs, beer gardens, night clubs help to create a lively atmosphere. 'La zona' centres on the Avenida de Ramón y Cajal, Paseo del Doctor Gadea and surrounding streets such as San Fernando, Canalejas, Arzobispo Loaces and Alemania, etc.

Another nightlife area is the 'Ruta de la Madera' (literally, 'route of wood'), named for the abundance of this material in the decoration of its pubs and disco bars. This area is based around the Avenida de Alfonso el Sabio, in streets uch as Capitan Segarra, Garcia Morato, and Campos Vassallo.

The largest and most popular area is 'El Barrio', which comes to life at night when the dozens of bars, pubs and taverns fill up with people, locals and visitors alike. They cater for all tastes and frequently offer live music or art exhibitions.

Alicante's marina and port offer exclusive restaurants, pubs and cafés and many shops where the die-hard shopper can shop til they drop! Add the fantastic views into the mix, and the wonderful shows that take place there during the summer months, and you'll be guaranteed a whale of a time!

Opposite the marina is Panoramis, a shopping and leisure centre which also sports a wide range of pubs and restaurants.

"spacious, stylish and comfortable accommodation in a vibrant area of Alicante"

The apartment was very clean and spacious with comfortable beds and had everything we needed including efficient air conditioning which was great after a long hot day on the beach. Situated in a lively area of Alicante with restaurants/coffee shops galore on your doorstep, 10 mins walk to a lovely beach and plenty of shops nearby. The local contact was very nice and helpful. No complaints. Would rent this apartment again with pleasure.

"Comfortable home in the heart of Alicante"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Alicante and the apartment played a large part in that.

The Pros:
It is located in the heart of El Barrio and sits on the corner of two pedestrian streets, so no direct traffic noise or fumes.

Due to its location, it is within easy walking distance of the main city beach, the Market as well as all the shops, restauants and bars you are ever likely to need. A short tram ride away are more shops and all the beaches north of Alicante.

The streets become restaurants for most of the day and night so on a two week holiday you could dine at a different eateries every night without moving more than 200 metres from the apartment.

The apartment is very spacious and sleeps six comfortably. With the furnishings and air conditioning it is very comfortable and practical with tile flooring to ensure ease of maintenance.

It is well equipped with plentiful bedding, towels and kitchen equipment and utensils. In addition there are some VHS tapes, books and board games. There is also some beach stuff which is a great help if you don't have your own.

The windows and balcony doors are double glazed which helps to keep down the noise from the street.

When we did need to know about something we were able to contact the owner who provideed a timeous and helpful reply.

The Cons:
Despite the double glazing, the weekends may be a bit too noisy at night for light sleepers. This is mainly so if you are a light sleeper and are in one of the two rooms overlooking the street.

All in all this apartment turned what could have been a nice holiday in Alicante to a great one. Two teenage adults with us, for whom it may have been boring experience, had a great time on the beach during the day and exploring the city in the evenings. Circumstances allowing, we will be more than happy to rent this property again.

"Ideally situated, spacious apartment."

This apartment is perfectly situated in a pedestrian street only 5 minutes walk from the beach. It has been decorated to a high standard and the kitchen has been well appointed with modern appliances. The living area is spacious and the whole apartment was ideal for four adults and two toddlers spanning three generations. The beds are very comfortable. The attention to detail is terrific, with toys, books, DVDs and games all available. The owner couldn't have been more helpful in dealing with our arrival in the middle of the Epiphany celebrations! Highly recommended.

"Wonderful home from home accomodation -perfect for families"

Our first family holiday with grand parents and a toddler was wonderful at this lovely town centre accomodation. The flat was well equipt with bedding, towels, toys, dvd player, and kitchen facilities which made it extremely easy to manage with an 18 month old. The rooms are lovely, bright and airy, enabling you feel part of the hustle and bustle and enjoy the atmosphere in the surronding area. It can be a little noisy of an evening, but not disruptive. We would definately return again. The local community is lovely for children with the beach only 5 minutes from the flat.

"Very spacious & clean flat, light & airy, modern, in a great location."

A lovely flat located on a corner aspect. Its high ceilings, and open plan modern design, contribute to the feeling of a light and airy property. The flat is spacious, refurbished to a high standard and generally very comfortable. A family, groups of friends, or two couples could stay and enjoy the property without feeling cramped. There is a lift if needed. The streets around the property are pedestrianised, and well-served with a choice of restaurants and cafes. The property is located close to the town hall just a couple of streets back from, and a short walk to, the waterfront/marina area. The shopping and amenities of the old town, and places to visit such as the market and the castle, are all close at hand. All round, a good choice.

"Great refurbished flat - best location"

We stayed in February with our 3 month old son. Flat is great with good aircon/heating and all the appliances. The marina, Explanada and the best restaurants are around the flat so location simply cannot be better.

No street noise from cars. However, during weekend nights you may hear the partygoers flowing out of the Barrio (at least during the Carnival), but this is part of the Barrio atmosphere.

Good flat, well maintained by the owners. We highly recommend.
