The Location:

The views and cobbled street of St Leonards in which the apartment is located gives the apartment a country setting, especially with the entrance to Holyrood Park literally 20 steps from your front door. However, the best bit is that the apartment is actually located just to the south-east of the Old Town.

Restaurants, shops, the recently refurbished Commonwealth swimming pool and gymnasium, Edinburgh Festival venues, the Scottish Parliament building, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the 63 acres parklands known as The Meadows and attractions such as Dynamic Earth are all within less than a 10 minutes' walk. The Royal Mile and the elegant Princes Street are also both just a lovely stroll away or you can jump on a bus, with a stop just metres from the end of St Leonards Street.

"Beautiful, luxuriously comfortable and a great location"

Really lovely place to stay: cosy, bright, clean, warm, stylish, well equipped and quiet. Gillian's personal touches make it so much nicer than hotels: everything's been chosen with care. The location is really good, easy to get around town on foot and right next to Arthur's Seat for a short but energetic stroll to stunning views over the city. Being able to park the car right outside (parking permit supplied) helps make it really easy to get to and unpack. Excellent customer service from Gillian: quick to reply, answer any questions and refund deposit. Great value too. All in all a perfect stay - I can only reiterate what others have already said and I'm already looking forward to our next visit.

"Luxury but for a fraction of the cost"

The Old School surpassed our expectations.

Where do I start? We had a wonderful weekend and much of that was down to the attention to detail from the owners. The decor is fabulous and the bed is one of the comfiest I have slept in for quite some time. You might be forgiven for thinking you are in one of the town's chicest boutique hotels, but for a fraction of the cost - and I know because I looked at several of them before I finally opted for The Old School!

The location is wonderful - set right on the edge of beautiful Holyrood Park and easily within walking distance of the city centre and its many restaurants and historic buildings.

Thank you once again for ensuring we had such a great stay. We will definitely be back.

"Perfect Two Day Getaway"

Stayed 2 nights for a short break and a chance to see our Capital. The location is the perfect point to start exploring from and the apartment itself is immaculate, with lots of little touches that make you feel at home.
I would recommend it to anyone and having the kitchen facilities gives it a great advantage over hotel holidays.

"Waaaaaaay better than any hotel......"

If your looking for a fantastic base to explore the delights and sights of Edinburgh look no further!! This apartment is on the fringe of the action, you can easily walk to the centre (15-20 mins) catch a bus (£3.50 day ticket) or taxi for £6 ish! The apartment is extremely quiet and is stunningly appointed. The attention to detail taken by the owners is outstanding, a warm blackboard welcome (and personal letter), chocolates and flowers. The apartment is over looked by Arthur's seat, the park entrance is literally outside the front door, it couldn't be closer! The only problem with this place is you may not want to leave and go out and explore all that Edinburgh has to offer! Can't praise this place highly enough, if I ever return I'll def be staying here! Thanks Gillian and Ewen.

"A beautiful apartment, tucked away between Edinburgh city and Holyrood park"

What a great place to stay!! Thumbs up on location, just a short walk to centre of Edinburgh with postcard, window views over Holyrood.
The old school is a clean, tidy, well decorated apartment (a clever mix of old character with modern furnishings) all with a touch of luxury -including all the mod cons!
The apartment is small in size, but don't let this deceive you, there is plenty of space and storage and is light and airy inside.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the old school and couldn't ask for better hosts. Very informative, attentive and as if nothing is too much trouble for them. We can't thank Gillian and Ewan enough!

"Fantastic and comfortable stay."

Appartment is furnished to a very high standard. Was very impressed when we went in. Gillian's little added touches made us feel very special. We would 100% stay there again! Nice and central location, within walking distance to the city centre and the royal mile. All in all we had a fantastic time and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

"Top notch apartment with breathtaking views"

The Old School apartment is furnished to the highest standards, very comfy bed, marvellous location. The owners have thought of everything with lovely dressing gowns and cosy feece blankets to snuggle into on a cold night. (although the apartments heating was amazing and lovely and warm). Even tea,coffee,milk and biscuits were supplied on arrival which was a lovely touch. The kitchen is well equipped and again of the highest standard. If you are looking for a good base to explore Edinburgh but a little away from the centre then this is for you. The bus stop is just at the end of the road and go extremely frequently and takes 5 mins! Or is easily walkable. Also near lots of shops and restaurants about 3mins walk in Clerk Street. The views are fantastic and just to the side of the apartment is an entrance to Holyrood Park. From here we walked upto the top of Arthur's Seat- absolutely amazing views. 5* for everything.

"A peaceful, cosy, beautifully furnished apartment."

We received a very warm welcome as Gillian and Ewan were driving nearby and gave us a lift, very kind of them and much appreciated. We were instantly impressed with the apartment, beautifully furnished in a stunning location by Holyrood Park with a super view of the Crags and Arthur's Seat. It is close to the city but like being in the countryside.
There were several ways into town, all quick and easy to use, the best is through the park as it is so lovely and you end up near Holyrood House and Scottish Parliament, both impressive buildings. You may find you want to stay put as the apartment is so lovely, we were almost grateful for a day of awful weather as we had an excuse to enjoy the peace of the apartment!
The bed and bedding is heavenly, expect to sleep well and wake late due to the comfort and darkness. The kitchen area is well equipped and Sainsbury's is a few minutes away so you can enjoy cosy meals for two. The feature fireplace adds to the relaxed vibe and the desire to rest.
If you like to run or walk, come equipped as Holyrood Park offers plenty of opportunities for both and it is on your doorstep. Arthur's Seat is an invigorating climb with stunning views from the top.
All in all, a memorable stay, we cannot wait to return.
