The Old School apartment has been featured in two interiors magazines, including 25 Beautiful Homes magazine! As a result it's always popular but please also check out our two other, more recently launched, apartments upstairs. The brand new and very funky Old School Master Suite (search for property number 5531553) and the Old School Tower apartment with stunning balconies on which to wine and dine (search for property number 1675417).

But back in the Old School will find underfloor heating, cosy bathrobes, the best of Egyptian cotton bed linen, an opulent king size bed with a high quality pocket-sprung mattress, fluffy white bath towels, a feature fireplace, sumptuous velvet curtains, flat screen TV and DVD player, chandeliers, a Bluetooth speaker, designer furniture and accessories, along with the well-fitted shower-room with Molton Brown toiletries, all giving you a feeling of a boutique hotel suite.

But the Old School apartment also gives you the added benefit of independence and flexibility. Cook a romantic meal in the fully fitted contemporary kitchen, with the dining area overlooking the courtyard. Or take the travel rug and head out for a picnic in Holyrood Park. Or you can take a short stroll to wine and dine in the many nearby city centre restaurants.

After all, with royalty as neighbours, it is fitting that you also experience some of the grandeur of royalty – albeit on a smaller scale - by staying in this former school, the most commanding building overlooking the Royal park. New to the holiday rental market, this studio offers luxury boutique accommodation with all the extras you would expect from a five star hotel - but not at a princely sum!

The apartment sits within communal gardens and also benefits from free private parking, wifi and a luggage locker for storing suitcases after check out time. Access is via a key within a keybox so you have the flexibility of letting yourselves in at a time that suits you.

The Location:

The views and cobbled street of St Leonards in which the apartment is located gives the apartment a country setting, especially with the entrance to Holyrood Park with the famous Arthur's Seat - recently voted as one of the world's best City Hikes by Lonely Planet - literally 20 steps from your front door. However, the best bit is that the apartment is actually located just to the south-east of the Old Town.

Restaurants, shops, the recently refurbished Commonwealth swimming pool and gymnasium, Edinburgh Festival venues, the Scottish Parliament building, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the 63 acres parklands known as The Meadows and attractions such as Dynamic Earth are all within less than a 10 minutes' walk. The Royal Mile and the elegant Princes Street are also both just a lovely stroll away or you can jump on a bus, with a stop just metres from the end of St Leonards Street.

"5 Star Rating"

No expense was spared in creating such a warm, elegant and comfortable condo. We had a fantastic time staying in this 5 star location (our personal rating). The attention to every detail made our stay very special. Everything from coffee, tea, fresh flowers, personal messages await guests who arrive and are pampered throughout the entire time. We hope to return again someday; for this truly was a special place like no other.

Who needs official rating systems with the far-more-valuable 5 star rating from our guests - which means so much more to us. I can't tell you how grateful we are that you took the time to share your lovely comments. Maybe by providing warm and elegant surroundings, we are attracting only warm and elegant guests! "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious... It really is that good!"

My partner and I stayed here to celebrate our honeymoon and both of our 21st Birthdays. We could not of asked for more, everything you could possibly need or want is supplied and the apartment itself is beautiful. My wife who LOVES to clean was very impressed with how clean and shiny the whole apartment was, nothing could be faulted.

This was my wife's first visit to Scotland and she cannot wait to plan our next visit and stay in one of the old school apartments again. With everything on your doorstep and a bus stop less than a 3 minute walk away, everything is very easy to get too.

We were simply spoiled for choice! To end our stay in Edinburgh we dined at 'The Dome' which was a fantastic way to end our visit, and we highly recommend to anyone considering a romantic break :) We will be recommending to all of our friends and family for sure!

"gorgeous high quality yet cosy apartment"

Absolutely beautiful apartment in a great location in Edinburgh. Stayed for a week on our honeymoon and it was just perfect. Everything you needed was in the flat including champagne glasses, dvds, iPod speakers, bathrobes and and molton brown toiletries. Beautifully finished decor to incredibly high standards and very luxurious and romantic feel to the place. Think mg favourite thing was the fire effect screen ! Brilliantly located next to Holyrood park and lots of bus routes to various places if didn't feel like walking (also very cheap for taxis to town).

Gillian (owner) couldn't have been more helpful including recommendations for places to eat - visited blonde restaurant about 2 minutes walk away and was wowed by good food and easy going vibe.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the apartment and would come back to the flat and Edinburgh in a heartbeat.

Beautiful and handy location. Stylish apartment that still had that homely feel (but much more clean and tidy than our home). Ewan and Gillian have thought of everything, there were so many thoughtful extras dotted around the apartment. We loved it and will be returning, perfection.

"Amazing apartment in great location"

My girlfriend and I had a fantastic stay in this amazing apartment. The apartment is right next to Arthurs seat and a 10 min walk from the royal Mile so great location. Communication with apartment owner before arrival was great and arrived to some very nice personal touches. Highly recommended.

"Beautiful, luxuriously comfortable and a great location"

Really lovely place to stay: cosy, bright, clean, warm, stylish, well equipped and quiet. Gillian's personal touches make it so much nicer than hotels: everything's been chosen with care. The location is really good, easy to get around town on foot and right next to Arthur's Seat for a short but energetic stroll to stunning views over the city. Being able to park the car right outside (parking permit supplied) helps make it really easy to get to and unpack. Excellent customer service from Gillian: quick to reply, answer any questions and refund deposit. Great value too. All in all a perfect stay - I can only reiterate what others have already said and I'm already looking forward to our next visit.

"Luxury but for a fraction of the cost"

The Old School surpassed our expectations.

Where do I start? We had a wonderful weekend and much of that was down to the attention to detail from the owners. The decor is fabulous and the bed is one of the comfiest I have slept in for quite some time. You might be forgiven for thinking you are in one of the town's chicest boutique hotels, but for a fraction of the cost - and I know because I looked at several of them before I finally opted for The Old School!

The location is wonderful - set right on the edge of beautiful Holyrood Park and easily within walking distance of the city centre and its many restaurants and historic buildings.

Thank you once again for ensuring we had such a great stay. We will definitely be back.

"Perfect Two Day Getaway"

Stayed 2 nights for a short break and a chance to see our Capital. The location is the perfect point to start exploring from and the apartment itself is immaculate, with lots of little touches that make you feel at home.
I would recommend it to anyone and having the kitchen facilities gives it a great advantage over hotel holidays.

"Waaaaaaay better than any hotel......"

If your looking for a fantastic base to explore the delights and sights of Edinburgh look no further!! This apartment is on the fringe of the action, you can easily walk to the centre (15-20 mins) catch a bus (£3.50 day ticket) or taxi for £6 ish! The apartment is extremely quiet and is stunningly appointed. The attention to detail taken by the owners is outstanding, a warm blackboard welcome (and personal letter), chocolates and flowers. The apartment is over looked by Arthur's seat, the park entrance is literally outside the front door, it couldn't be closer! The only problem with this place is you may not want to leave and go out and explore all that Edinburgh has to offer! Can't praise this place highly enough, if I ever return I'll def be staying here! Thanks Gillian and Ewen.

"A beautiful apartment, tucked away between Edinburgh city and Holyrood park"

What a great place to stay!! Thumbs up on location, just a short walk to centre of Edinburgh with postcard, window views over Holyrood.
The old school is a clean, tidy, well decorated apartment (a clever mix of old character with modern furnishings) all with a touch of luxury -including all the mod cons!
The apartment is small in size, but don't let this deceive you, there is plenty of space and storage and is light and airy inside.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the old school and couldn't ask for better hosts. Very informative, attentive and as if nothing is too much trouble for them. We can't thank Gillian and Ewan enough!
