The Central Scotland/Edinburgh region
Edinburgh itself is a vibrant city with attractions to suit all ages and cultures.
For the kids, there's Edinburgh Zoo just outside the City Centre, Dynamic Earth near Holyrood, and for all, there are countless museums, art galleries, castles, shops, shops and more shops!
To try and name all places of interest in here would be impossible, but there are certainly enough to fill the longest holiday!
Edinburgh / Stockbridge area
Stockbridge is an area of Edinburgh full of small local shops, great bars and restaurants and is ideally placed for access to the City Centre (just a few minutes walk) or , for some quiet walks by the water.
It is located towards the north of the city centre, bordering on the New Town and was originally a small village, but was later incorporated into the City of Edinburgh. The actual "Stock Bridge" was built in 1801 and spans the Water of Leith. This can be seen just round the corner of from the apartment in Dean Bank Lane – turn right out of the main front door, and right again at the traffic lights, and you’ll see the bridge just where Pizza Express is.
The main thoroughfare, Raeburn Place, contains many various shops and restaurants. Stockbridge is also noted for its numerous speciality shops including a cheese shop as well as multiple charity shops (some of which are among the highest grossing in the UK).
Each year Stockbridge hosts a community festival, normally lasting 9 days at the end of June. Since 1988, the festival has held The Stockbridge Duck Race to raise money for local charities. 1000 rubber ducks are released into the Water of Leith. Each has a number written on its head and the first ducks past the winning line win prizes for their sponsors. "Duck Wardens" follow the ducks to keep them out of the reeds and to stop watching children falling into the river. Hundreds of people turn out every year to cheer for their duck ( and you could do this right from the windows of the property!!)
How to get there
This apartment is in Edinburgh City Centre - it is therefore very easy to reach on public transport, using the city's comprehensive bus network.
The are many flight operators landing now at Edinburgh's busy airport, and a short bus ride from there will take you to the City Centre. Similarly, train companies povide sufficient links to get to Edinburgh from other parts of the UK.
