The Lothians region
The Old Mill is easily accessible for train and air and being close to the Edinburgh Ring Road, it's the perfect base to explore all the attractions that Scotland's capital and the surrounding countryside has to offer! Not to mention the Highlands to the North, over the Forth Road Bridge to Fife and Perthshire or south to the rural Borders.
For the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and all the action in the city centre at the Edinburgh Festival - we are perfectly located close to the ring road, M8 motorway to Glasgow and close to Edinburgh city centre
The charming village of Juniper Green is a stone's throw away (300m along a wooded path) where there are pubs, restaurants, local shops and an excellent deli. Walking further along this well surfaced, picturesque path will take you right into the heart of Edinburgh where you can explore this magnificent capital. We are on the edge of the Pentland hills and so there are wonderful walks for all levels - stretching out from the garden gate. Nearby there are a number of excellent golf courses and fishing opportunities literally on the doorstep!

"tranquility on the edge of the city"
Stayed 4 nights visiting daughter at university. Lovely to collect her and have such quality home from home comforts ( better in fact ! ) to enjoy. Facilities excellent and location perfect - river outside garden, local shops/restaurants/pubs, walks from the door, public transport from door, easy drive into edinburgh centre. I dont usually ever stay in a place a second time but this would be the exception ! Fresh juice, brownies, home made bread , wine, whisky , even a dog welcome pack - were just a few of the wecoming treats awaiting us when we arrived. How lovely. ALL the guest comments in the visitors book were just as positive .
Delighted you enjoyed your stay with us - and many thanks for your kind comments

"Secluded accommodation in picturesque setting"
We were enchanted with The Old Mill from the moment we arrived. The accommodation was renovated to a high standard of comfort and convenience, with quirky and tasteful décor. Our hosts, Mark and Jen could not have been more considerate to our needs, providing us with a very generous and imaginative 'welcome pack'. Relaxing in the garden, chatting while enjoying a drink, and watching the Dippers and Grey Wagtail on the tumbling Water of Leith, was magical, - all this, within such easy reach of the City. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage.
Thanks for your lovely review and I really hope you come back to stay again

"Lovely peaceful setting and beautiful cottage"
The Old Mill is a lovely place to stay for a few days. The cottage itself comfortably sleeps 4 easily (we had 5 at some points) and is well furnished and well equipped. The owners live in the adjacent building and are very friendly, with a very friendly dog which my 9 year old adopted for our short stay. The setting is so peaceful, with the stream just outside your window you would never guess that you were only 20 minutes from the city centre (good bus service from just on the main road) and only a few minutes drive from some nice restaurants and local shops. There are lots of lovely local walks and the owner has very helpfully provided maps and guide sheets that you can take with you. There were also some lovely goodies left for us, and we did avail ourselves of the selection of welly boots provided in the utility room! All in all a lovely stay and we will happily come back again.
It was lovely to meet you all and Poppy was particularly sad to say goodbye to your 9 year old! It was a mutual love affair! We look forward to seeing you all here again

"Great stay in an idyllic setting"
My husband and I stayed at The Old Mill with our 2 year old son for 3 nights. We honestly couldn't have asked for more. This place is a real gem and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to anyone.
The accommodation itself strikes a perfect balance of being clean and modern but also homely and authentic. It is located in a suburban area which is great for the transport links (direct bus to the city centre every 10 minutes or so) - however, what we really liked about it is the way that it's situated back from the main road and beside a river surrounded by nature, which gives it the feel of a real rural retreat.
Equally as impressive was the service provided by the owners, Jennifer and Mark. They really did go out of their way to ensure that everything was perfect for us and were so helpful and friendly. I don't normally leave reviews but we were so impressed we just had to on this occasion! We'll certainly be back next time we're in Edinburgh
It was lovely to meet you all and I am so glad that The Old Mill gave you a great base to explore Edinburgh. Thanks for your kind comments - we really appreciate it.

"Luxurious, peaceful, stunning location right on river, 20 mins from Edinburgh city centre"
Stayed at The Old Mill with 9 year old and 5 year old children for the Edinburgh festival. Beautiful riverside setting with lovely outside seating area -- kids paddled and fished in the river. Very convenient for Edinburgh city centre but out of town away from city life. Hosts were absolutely lovely, nothing too much trouble and the thoughtful welcome pack was much appreciated - especially wine, chocolate brownies, fresh bread, and Jelly Babies.
It was really lovely to meet you and I am delighted you all enjoyed your stay. We particularly enjoyed getting you to the gig on time! Do come back next year and stay for longer!

The staff were extremely friendly. It was a relaxing place and the lovely house we stayed in was gorgeous. Definitely would recommend this place if you wanted to enjoy Edinburgh, close to the city centre, ideal for our trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I would definitely stay there again.

"Great location and beautiful, well-equipped cottage"
We stayed here for four nights during the Fringe festival and found the accommodation to be perfect for our needs. The location is very convenient and offers a rural touch within easy distance of Edinburgh and the ring road for trips further afield. The cottage is modern, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you need for a self-catered stay. Located right next to the river it couldn't be more picturesque. Jen made us feel very welcome and we would certainly go back again.
Thanks for the lovely review and I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Please come back soon!

"Lovely cottage and warm family"
I really enjoyed three days and nights at this old-but-fully convenient cottage, especially the fantastic sound of water streaming all day. the rooms were cozy and warm, living-room with door and terrace space were also the best place that I enjoyed both sunshine and fresh wind. The location is good to reach city-center and other famous trip sites.
It was great to meet you all and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We also loved watching YoungJoo's film and also the chat over a dram and look forward to seeing you again soon

"Glorious and relaxing cottage"
Beautifully crafted cottage. Very thoughtful and fine details considered when designing the space, right down to brass fixtures on window. Old world charm with new modern conveniences. Living along the babbling brook created a soothing environment. Our kids enjoyed frolicking in the river. Wonderful welcome package of foods, wine, toiletries. The owners Mark and Jennifer are very thoughtful and helpful in every regard. Truly lovely people... Getting into Edinburgh centre was a 20min drive, and very easy. The airport was only a 15 min drive. What a great space....comes highly recommended!! Deposit was returned immediately as well.
Thanks for such a nice review - glad you enjoyed your stay and that the wedding went well. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
