The Lothians region

With easy access to St Andrews, Stirling, Glasgow and the borders, Edinburgh is a perfect base for any visit to Scotland. The international airport is connected to the city by a dedicated Airlink bus, which has a terminus outside the city's main railway station - Waverley train station. The city is small enough to be able to walk around, which is the best way to explore all of the medieval closes (alleyways) and network of stairs connecting streets under the main bridges of the Old Town with the streets above. Be prepared for lots of cobbled streets! The city boasts beautiful Victorian and Georgian architecture and some of Scotland's greatest attractions.

Edinburgh also benefits from an abundance of green spaces, with Holyrood Park, Princes Street gardens and the meadows providing city centre access to grass land and outdoor activity. The skyline is dominated by Arthur's Seat, an easy climb, it is lined to the south by the pentland hills and has easy access to the beaches of Portobello and forth estuary along from the iconic Forth Rail Bridge at South Queensferry to Leith. The Botanical Gardens and Edinburgh Zoo are both worth a visit, accessible by local bus.

The international fringe festival is a key attraction in August but there are many other festivals which straddle the period and take place throughout the summer months, including the book festival, film festival and numerous gourmet food events, comedy shows and street entertainment, not to mention the unique sound of the bagpipes which are sure to be heard on any given day!

The Old Town is the oldest part of Scotland's capital city and (along with the city's New Town) is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are numerous underground streets and vaults which can be visited on one of the city's walking ghost tours. The medieval street layout of the Old Town, combined with the volcanic crag upon which the castle is perched, provide for an extremely picturesque city scape. Numerous spires, domes and turrets stand out along the skyline.

Infirmary Street was the site of the ancient Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and most key buildings throughout the Old Town have plaques detailing the history of their lives. The architecturally significant Surgeon's Hall, St Gile's Cathedral (where traditional Hogmanay celebrations started), the Royal Museum of Scotland and the University of Edinburgh are all only a stone's throw away from South Bridge. The infamous Grayfriar's Bobby stood loyal by his master's grave, again only a few minutes walk away, passing the Royal Museum and High Court of Chambers' Street. (Don't miss the outstanding Tower restaurant on the roof of the Museum)

The Jazz Club, also located on Chambers Street, plays host to numerous international jazz musicians until the wee hours of the morning and the nearby Festival Theatre hosts a plethora of cultural events, including operas, ballets, stand up comedy shows. The bars, restaurants and shops of George Street, St Andrew's Square and The Scotsman and The Balmoral Hotel are within 15 minutes walk. The location also provides easy access to Marchmont, Bruntsfield and Morningside, only a 15-20 minute pleasant walk across the Meadows.

"Perfect location in heart of where its all happening"

Great city hideaway in heart of city - perfect retreat for a weekend away with friends. Very clean and in excellent order throughout. Living room gets lots of sunlight - so can sit at the dining table having breakfast soaking up the Edinburgh sun. Lots of amenities nearby including cafes, bars and restaurants.

"Smart, clean property in a fantasic location"

We stayed at the property for a week in September to see the sights of Edinburgh and we were extremely impressed with the property and even more so by it's location.

Compact but very smart and tidy, the apartment is a stones throw from the Royal Mile and easy walking distance for all the central sights in Edinburgh. There are several flights of stairs to get to the front door but this makes for a bright and quiet stay at the top of the building.

Internally the property is exceptionally well maintained with a stylish, state of the art kitchen and clean and tidy bathroom. The living room is a good size with 2 decent bedrooms.

In summary we the stay far exceeded our expectations with a truly fantastic location and very comfortable accommodation.
