Home description

Perfect for a city break, the Edinburgh Festival or Hogamany (no one celebrates New Year like the Scots) , this apartment offers a home from home. Light, airy and very well equipped, it has a welcoming 'feel' which is often commented on and many of our guests return year after year. Edinburgh is a vibrant, outstandingly beautiful city, easily enjoyed on foot (although it is also very proud of its public transport). It offers first class theatres, museums (connected by a free bus), concert halls and shops. Well connected by rail, plane and road, it also makes an ideal base for exploring the rest of Scotland.

The Central Scotland/Edinburgh region

Scotland's capital is in the central belt, making a perfect base to explore the region. There are golf courses in all directions, great walks - take the footpath along the Water of Leith (www.waterofleith.org.uk/) or walk over Arthur's Seat to the pretty village of Duddingston. Pretty villages like Gullane, or beaches like Portobello are nearby, and there are regular trains to Glasgow, Leuchars (for St Andrews), Aviemore and Pitlochry (the gateway to the Highlands).

Edinburgh area

In August, Edinburgh is host to the Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world and in December, it pushes the boat out for its Hogmanay celebrations. But there is heaps to do at any time of year. It has stunning museums, and art galleries, the former Royal Yacht Britannia is available for tours in Leith, the Traverse Theatre and Edinburgh Festival Theatre are justly famous. The Royal Mile, which makes a great walk, boasts the Castle at one end and Holyrood Palace at the other. Next to the Palace is the new, award-winning parliament (open for tours) and both nestle at the foot of Arthur's Seat, the extinct volcano which forms a dramatic backdrop. Princes Street is justly famous for its shops and listen out for the one o clock gun which is fired from the castle battlements.

Very central Edinburgh location

Fly to Edinburgh International airport (www.edinburghairport.com). Easyjet (www.easyjet.com) usually has the cheapest fares, but see www.skyscanner.net for more options. There are taxis in abundance (approximately £18). There is a 25minute express bus into the city centre (www.flybybus.com), which runs 24 hours a day, (single fare £5) to Waverley Station. From here, it is 5 minutes by bus or by taxi or 10-15 minute on foot.

Edinburgh is also easily reached by train. The main station is Waverley, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the apartment.
