The Lothians region

Edinburgh and the Lothians is a region of iconic landmarks, world-famous festivals and exciting possibilities. You can be sure to find excellent attractions, activities and entertainment in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh.

Offering a wealth of fantastic places to eat and more Michelin-star restaurants than any other city in the UK outside of London, with plenty of markets, local stores, exclusive bars, vibrant cookery schools and excellent restaurants and pubs, Edinburgh and the Lothians offers a great range of eating and drinking experiences.

Edinburgh has a host of fabulous attractions, from iconic Edinburgh Castle to the National Museum of Scotland, great theatres offering excellent shows to the activity sport centres and outdoor attractions. When exploring the streets of Edinburgh, you'll experience the extraordinary sights and sounds of this UNESCO World Heritage Site from the legendary Edinburgh Castle to fascinating museums. Art galleries in Edinburgh are airy and welcoming with space for you to relax and enjoy great art . The galleries have plenty of art to see for free, some with paid touring exhibitions too and also have great cafes, shops and events.

Edinburgh has more green space than most cities. Along with gardens and parklands there are inner-city paths along old train tracks and beside rivers which feel so peaceful it is hard to believe that you are in the middle of the city.

Edinburgh

Inspired by the lofty ideals of the Scottish Enlightenment, the neat and ordered grid of the New Town provides an elegant contrast to the jumbled design of the Old Town.

Admire the spectacular neoclassical architecture as you wander down its broad streets, and get a glimpse of how life was lived by the city's upper classes in the 18th century on a visit to the beautiful Georgian House in Charlotte Square.

You can also view paintings and photographs of Scotland's most iconic figures, from Mary Queen of Scots to Sean Connery, at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery on Queen Street. Afterwards, browse the sophisticated boutiques on George Street before settling down to a drink or meal in one of its chic bars and restaurants

"home away from home"

We really enjoyed our stay in Royal Terrace Edinburgh. The apartment is spacious and well equipped. We visit Edinburgh regularly and this was a different area for us. Stockbridge is nearby and has good shops and restaurants. I can highly recommend The Blue Bear for breakfast- superb! The Botanic gardens was a real surprise and well worth the short walk. Some minor issues would enhance the experience further. The bed/mattress in the double room needs replacing and a mirror in the same room needed. Parking is very expensive and options could be suggested in the apartments description. Other than that the space compared to a hotel room makes it a pleasure to spend time in the apartment and I would definitely recommend this property to other people. This was an ideal base for our break in Edinburgh and our visit to the Open golf at Muirfield.

Thank you for your complementary review and positive comments. The bed now has a new form mattress for added comfort, and in addition to the existing full length mirror in the hall, another will be installed in the bedroom. We appreciate feed back to help us improve our visitors' stay.

"Charm of Edinburgh with boutique hotel feel"

We had a wonderful short break in Royal Crescent. We found the apartment close to all the attractions in Edinburgh, but it was also a quiet oasis away from the hubbub of the city. Gives you a real fee… More

"Cosy, comfortable and convenient"

The apartment was just right for our family of 5 with 3 tweenagers. Anna leaves a comprehensive binder on the workings of the apartment so we felt right at home from the time we arrived. The flat was clean, warm and well equipped, other than groceries, we did not need much of anything else.

There is only a small round table in the kitchen for dining, but unless you plan to entertain, this is not a problem.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
