21 Cordiner's Land is a compact 2 bedroomed apartment, which is fully equipped and luxuriously appointed to the highest standards. Both our apartments (Apartment 39 Lothian House is our other Edinburgh property) have received annual Four Star Self-Catering awards for the past 16 years, so you can book this property with confidence for your Edinburgh holiday. The apartment has been tastefully modernised with an elegant decor, to suit discerning travellers requiring quality, homely comfort and relaxation. It is extremely well maintained and always presented in the highest condition of cleanliness. It is located on the third floor (sorry, no lift or elevator in this historic building) in the delightfully peaceful and quiet rear wing of the building. It overlooks the Cordiner's Land private terraced courtyard gardens and enjoys an outstanding outlook over the Old Town and Edinburgh Castle, which dominates this area. This is a great place to stay, particularly if a central location is important, and you want cleanliness, comfort & excellent value for money.
Cordiner's Land is a unique building within Edinburgh's historic architecture and reflects a part of the city's ancient history upon its walls. One of only two remaining historic stone emblems of Edinburgh's 'cordiners' (shoemakers) features above the front entrance. The central location makes sightseeing very easy, with many attractions close by. It is only a short walk to Princes Street, through its famous gardens. The Edinburgh International Conference Centre, major banks, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, public car parks, shopping and Edinburgh Castle are all within a 5-10 minute walk.
This lovely property is very flexible and is ideal for single travellers (also being 'female friendly'), couples seeking a romantic city centre hideaway, or for families needing a comfortable base for sightseeing.

The apartment is quite compact, however, the master bedroom offers a comfortable king width bed (with dual control electric blanket so you will be cosy on those cold Scottish evenings). The second bedroom has quality bunk beds, with a small double bed below and full size single bed on top (both beds have supportive slatted bases and firm mattresses). The bathroom is small but has a full size bath with electric power shower above the bath, a toilet and vanity wash basin area. The sitting room is open plan with the dining area and well equipped modern kitchen. It is a versatile property, which suits single travellers (it is female friendly), as well as couples and families.

21 Cordiner's Land is on the third floor. There is a balcony walkway that leads up to the front door, which overlooks the well maintained secluded private courtyard gardens (only used by Cordiner's Land residents). The building is unique and has a street frontage wing and a quiet rear terraced wing-where number 21 is located. Although access is via the stairs leading to the third floor, due to the terracing of the gardens, this property is only one level above the ground by the time you get to the apartment's front door. The outlook and views are spectacular, enjoy standing on the balcony soaking up the atmosphere!
A complimentary generous arrival welcome continental breakfast package is included, along with some Scottish sweet treats and toiletries. (All food and drinks provided are sealed and individually packaged.)
The Lothians region
There is such a lot to see and do in this famous city! Edinburgh is the Capital of Scotland and it is full of historic buildings, places of interest, museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas, culturally enriching experiences, sporting venues, theatrical events & literary tours. It is also easy to take half day trips to a multitude of interesting surrounding places, attractions and general areas of historic note, as well as day trips up to the Highlands from Edinburgh. Over the past 16 years our guests have regularly said they wished they could have stayed longer, and many have returned for those promised longer 'return visits'!
21 Cordiner's Land is located just below Edinburgh Castle, so it easy walking distance away from the Royal Mile. This historic mile is a road leading down the hill from the Castle to the Palace of Holyrood House. It is full of places to visit, tourist attractions, museums, restaurants, and experiences to create memories of a lifetime! The famous Grassmarket, Princes Street & its lovely gardens are also only a few minutes walk away. These gardens are superb for relaxing, or even enjoying a picnic on a summery evening, when the long twilights encourage visitors to make the most of the extended daylight hours. The Grassmarket is another vibrant area to visit, there are historic pubs where you can enjoy a relaxing meal or take in some entertainment. The Farmers Market is only 5 minutes walk away from 21 Cordiner's Land - which really is in a fabulous location, right in the heart of the action - particularly at festival times (but 21 is quietly tucked away in the private gardens at the rear of the building, so there is no street noise!). Edinburgh has so many festivals, including the Edinburgh International Festival, Fringe Festival, Military Tattoo, Book Festival, Film Festival & Jazz Festival - to name some of the main ones! Events are mainly based at venues within the city centre area, and so are either an easy walk away, or a short bus journey. Public transport passes the front door of Cordiner's Land.

It was very pleasing to hear your visit to 21 Cordiner's Land was enjoyable, despite the communication difficulties we had with language issues! (Our Hiring Agreement is in keeping with that recommended by the 'Association of Scotland's Self-Caterers', so all member properties have similar holiday rental terms.) It all worked out fine though, thanks to your daughter for her help! Thank you for this great review too, we hope to see you back again sometime. Edinburgh is full of amazing things to see and do, so return visits are always worthwhile.

We are lucky this apartment is in such a fabulous position. A lift would be great, but as Cordiner's Land is a listed historic building that will never be possible, so we will all just have to keep climbing the stairs! (At least it is worth the climb to this third floor apartment, which offers an amazing haven from the hustle and bustle of life in the city centre.) We look forward to welcoming you back sometime.

"Tidy, well equipped apartment in great location"
I found this apartment to be completely suitable for our stay there. It's very clean and is well equipped if you are thinking of eating in whilst visiting. The location is super - 10 min walk to Princes St and well positioned for public transport. I also really enjoyed the 1 min walk to good size Sainsburys on the corner. Very handy for any traveller. The apartment is small but a thousand times better than hotel accommodation with the added benefit of privacy. Travelling with my teenage daughter I also felt completely secure at this address and at no time were we bothered with any noise at all. It may be worth noting that the flat is up three flights of stairs, but this is pointed out and made clear if you read reviews. This wasn't problematic for us but maybe older visitors would want to consider.
All up I would recommend this property to couples or small family looking for accommodation close to city.

"Great flat in the heart of Edinburgh"
The flat does everything it says on the tin and more so check out the website!! Great location very close to Grassmarket, beautifully furnished with everything one could want and to cap it off a friendly welcome by the owner on arrival. On my next trip to Edinburgh I won't even bother look for other accommodation, I will be staying at 21 Cordiner's Land.

"Comfortable and characterful Old Town apartment with lovely view of the castle"
We had a very enjoyable stay at October half term 2013. The apartment is small but very well-equipped and comfortable. Jenny provides comprehensive instructions and information for guests, and a most generous welcome breakfast pack. The location is convenient for the old town, but feels secluded and private. The children loved it.
The steps up to the flat might be a problem for those with heavy bags.
Thanks for this review, we are glad to hear your children enjoyed themselves. (The tower bridge leading into the gardens is usually a big attraction for children, so I hope they had a chance to explore ... we've heard there might even be trolls hiding under the ferns below!)
