Carlops Cottage is traditional-style cottage but with modern conveniences. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation for 4 plus baby and includes a spacious living room (looking out on the small south-facing garden) with dining area at one end, a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom with bath and shower, double bedroom and twin/double bedroom with a view over the famous Carlops Rock.

The cottage is perfect for friends and family holidays, romantic breaks, hill walking with your dog or a quiet country base for Edinburgh shopping and sights. Don’t forget the Edinburgh Festival in August and Hogmanay celebrations at New Year.

Central heating, instant hot water and electricity are provided free of charge, as are bed linen and towels.

A cot and high chair are provided but please bring your baby's bedding.

Parking is available and free at the cottage.

Carlops Cottage is in the historically interesting village of Carlops which is nestled at the foot of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

It is an ideal location for hillwalking, cycling, skiing, pony trekking, fishing and golf, as well as for visiting the beautiful city of Edinburgh for, among other things, its culture, history and shopping!

The historic market town of Peebles is nearby, one of the many interesting places set in the stunning Scottish Borders.

Within easy reach are an abundance of castles and gardens which have their spring, summer and autumn attractions.

An ideal base for family holidays, romantic getaways, honeymoon hideout, sporting base ….


On the doorstep of Carlops Cottage is the Pentland Hills Regional Park. It is a favourite walking area for experienced hikers, nature lovers or simply for taking the dog for a stroll.

Skiing is a winter option on the hills or as an all-year option at the nearby ski centre.

Only a short drive away are the historic towns, castles and gardens of the Scottish Borders.

The culture, sights and shopping of Edinburgh are easily accessed by car or bus.

Among many other nearby attractions, Rosslyn Chapel is worth a mention.

Or stay at home and enjoy the village with its 18th century hotel providing pub & restaurant, the village hall with various activities and the children's play area.

We are always grateful for feedback from our guests and respond promptly to their suggestions.
The cottage has undergone a deep clean this week.
The vacuum cleaner has been repaired and the letterbox replaced.
The village's hotel is undergoing refurbishment of its kitchen & restaurant so we trust this will be to the benefit of our future guests.
